Default Weights on wheels (pics)

Does anyone here think that there is a problem with wheels that have this many weights on them. I was woundering if there is anything I need to be worried about. I am thinking about purchasing these, so let me know of any possible issues.

The number of weights is also affected by how symmetric the tires are. If you get a good set of tires, they may balance with less weights.

The weights are proably from the previous tires and nothing to do with the wheels. They should be good to go.....

I agree, these weights are indicative of the tires that were probably removed from the wheels. Factory wheels are usually very well balanced by themselves. Typically they will require less weight than all but some of the best aftermarket wheels. Next time you have some tires mounted on your favorite wheels, ask them to spin one of them up with no tire mounted, you might be surprised.

I purchased a set of ZR-1 wheels off ebay for an excellent price. These were off-shore rims and I knew they were not the same quality as factory but then they were also a third the price. In mounting up Goodyear GSD3's, three of them took less than an ounce and a half, while one took two and a half ounces. I felt something was not right so we removed the tire, turned it and rebalanced it twice. Each time it was the same or slightly more. Finally we removed the tire and put the wheel alone on the machine, sure enough it was off by 2 & a half ounces. In most cases you get exactly what you pay for. I knew I was not purchasing factory wheels, so I did not expect perfection.

By the way, passenger tires come with a dot on the sidewall that indicates the heavy point and is to be mounted relative to the tire valve on the rim. I believe it is to be mounted next to the tire valve, but I keep forgetting. No problem, Tire Rack is just chock full of information and will tell you exactly how it goes. It does make a difference in the amount of weight required for a balance. With quality components very little difference, but a difference never-the-less.

As others mentioned above, there may be nothing wrong with the wheels. There's really no way of knowing by just looking at the pics. The tire tech who last mounted and/or balanced tires on these wheels may not have been that experienced. A good tire tech with the proper equipment can generally keep the weights to a minimum. Here's a few links you might like to check out when it come time to balance your tires and wheels:

Good luck.

I have the same wheels and the same type weights. One wheel and tire didn't take any weights and the others took a couple. It is all in the tires I think!
