I installed drilled/slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads.
Some people say they are noisy. Is this the sort of noise that they talk about?
I hear a roaring sound while driving, no squeal when stopping. The roaring sound to me like tire noise Bf Goodrich G-Force T/A KDA. Hope it isn't front wheel bearings. No change in sound when turning in either direction.
If anyone has any information I would appreciate their input.
Thanks,
Rsty
I have the same thing happening in both Vette's, both C4 and C5. Just something with the pads from what I can tell. If you change them out, it will stop, put them back in and it will appear again.
that 'roaring' or whorling sound are the brake pads over the drill and slots on the rotors. Any brake pad used with D/S rotors will do that under normal to hard braking.
D/S rotors also tend to shave brake pads down. The orignal purpose of the slots was to shave the glazing off the 1960's aspestous brake pads, which inturn reduce pad life to do the shaving the pad from normal use. The holes were to help release the aspetous gas produce by these pads. Aspetous brake pads have not been used since the 1960's hence D/S rotors now are really only for bling and not functionality in braking.
The slots shaving the brake pads create more dustas well, which Hawk Pads are some of the dustiest pads out there.

Thanks for the info. The sound I have is not only when braking but while driving. So if it is the pads rubbing on the rotors I can live with that because that is the nature of the beast. All replies I have received none address the wheel bearings, so hopefully this may not be the problem.
I have them front and rear and the only noise I hear is from the POS run flats.... No noise what-so-ever from the brakes...
After checking to see if it is wheel bearing noise and it's not..I also think it's the tires. (BF GOODRICH G-FORCE T/A)Turning front wheels by hand there is a slight drag on the pads by the rotors.
Thanks for your input.

I've run the hawk HP+ and not have them make the noise. Run the stock also and not made any noise. Just one of those things I guess. I like the HP+ better than the HPS after trying the HPS.
And the drilled and slotted definately do wear the pads down faster.
You will always have a little drag when turning the wheel with the car off the ground.
