Default Headers

I 'm ready for my second performance mod. I have the Blackwing and I intend on getting the Corsa Indy Pace and X pipe. I guess to maximize gas in and gas out I should get a good set of headers also. What headers would go best with the Corsa package?

This is an area where you will get many opinions. LG's seem to be most popular and reports from the mfg. say they make the most powerful headers in the world. LG's are also the most expensive. Kooks makes a high quality piece. Stainless works also makes a quality product. There are a few more and i'm sure others will add them in here. I went with the Kooks I had problems dealing with LG and after my 4th call to them decided that my money should go to a company that actually wanted my business. I went through The Vette Doctors here on the forum. Along with them and the factory contact (thanks George) I now have a high quality piece, purchased from a quality vendor. I am happy with all aspects of my purchase.

I don't think any header will go better or worse with your exhaust rear section.
The long tube headers are making slightly more power than shorties and are typically a little more expensive, but money well spent to me.

There are several very good header companies out there for the C5 like;
LG's
Kooks
TPIS
Stainless Works
and a few others that are all making nice power gains when coupled with a good tune.
You are good to go with 1.75" headers as opposed to 1 7/8" Unless you plan to go to more cubic inches or forced induction (turbo/supercharger) in the future.
Planning for your end goal will save you a LOT of money and time along the way.
Plan each piece with your tuner so that in the end, you only buy what you need, and each piece will work well with the other.
Best wishes with mod fever!

That is some great advice! That is why I went with the LG's. I already have the Blackwing and Corsa Indies. All of those combined with a good tune put me at 12.79 @107mph in the 1/4 mile. My RWHP IS 331 and the RWTQ is 330. All that with an A4 with runcraps. Good luck with your decision its a tough one

Just put SLP's on my 97 with Corsa x pipe and exhaust.
Gained right at 20 hp across the power band.

LG's a great but very pricey. I'll live with my slp's I got too much power alrady. It will flat get up and go and sounds sweet.

Email me if you need more info

Danny

Just got done installing lg's and they fit great. If mine wasen't a 2000 and I didin't have to change the egr tube, the project would of taken 2.5 houres start to finish. I've put headers (flp i think)on my buddies c5. They were a nightmare. They took all day and those damn things still leak. My vote for LG's. They sound great! Infact they made so much power I just broke my out put shaft! Plus if you dont like them You can still get $1300 for them used.

Many good brands of headers out there, but from my research i went with Lg's. Fact is I haven't even had them installed yet. I've got them at Jet-Hot now getting coated. My opinion was all the money you spend on your car might as well spend a few hundred more and go for the best (or I hope so anyway). Good luck with you decision.

What year is your Vette? If 00 or before I would skip the Cat Back an put the money towards an LS6 intake swap.

Now for the headers. Any choice as long as they are LT's will be a good one. I almost went LG's but found a set of Melrose headers for a great price. Alot of the systems out there now have headers, Cats and an X-pipe with the system so you will not need to purcahse an X-pipe seprate. Be sure to get the headers Coated inside and out if the LT's are carbon steel. As for me I love the sound of the LT's, 3" cats and X-pipe thru my stock mufflers. I have a little growl in the exhaust and alot of stealth. My friend is running a Pro-Charger and other goodies thru stock mufflers on a 99FRC and runs 10.8's at the track. Good luck.

And nobody mentions the best bang for the buck out there.... Dynatech LT's and their high flow cats. Unless you build an all out engine, you'll never notice the difference for the extra $600 spent on the LG's. Enough of the hype, lets see the meat with a back to back comparo on a neutral dyno. I think there is a reason why it's never happened..........

Thanks for bringing up another header to consider. I don't have any experience with them like I do others mentioned.

What is your experience with them? I'm always interested in new choices if they yield desirable results.

Stainless Works LTHs are made of 304 stainless steel which won't rust and the company's customer service is really great.

Just installed the Dynatech system this weekend. They are 304 stainless as well. Had them coated and they look . Installation was straight forward. For the money, this is the best system out there unless you have an all out race car. Even then, they'd be good.
Just my .02.

Try Dynotechs, a much cheaper alternative to LG, plus they are almost the same desigh, other than a 3 inch midsection, which gains 2-3HP over the dynotech 2.5 section

DYNOTECHS!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys

What I can say about our LG Pro Long Tube headers. Well they are the worlds most powerful corvette header on the planet. These are the same headers we use on our World Challenge car. They will work with any Corsa cat back system you choose, the only one that doesn't work is the Ti systems.

We have the C5 systems in stock and ready to ship out today. C6 systems should be close behind.

Please call and ask for myself or Bobby and we can help you out in any way possible.
