Dynatech SuperMAXX headers - How do you like them?
I am thinking about a set of Dynatech SuperMAXX headers as one of the first mods for my stock 2001 C5. Any good or bad news to report with these? Can they be installed in a garage, or is a lift required? They are stainless steel but I was thinking about having them coated anyway to help reduce heat. What are your thoughts?
I installed them last May in my garage on jackstands.
I had the sent out and Jet-Hot coated before I installed. I have had no problems with them and would install them again.
Very high quality and fitment.
Hope this helps
I had mine installed about 2 weeks ago, I did the complete system
high flow cats and x-pipe. They make a lot of torque. Diffenitly louder
and more inside rumble. I personaly like it, but may be too much for
some.

I installed mine this weekend on jackstands in the garage, jackstands sitting on top of 2x10's, so about 23" for front and about 20" with jackstands for rear. Had mine coated by Jethot, installing them did scrape some of the coating off. I installed them by myself, so it took some time getting them to fit in. Difficultulties were the air conditioning tubes on the passenger side, I had to pry the tubes out of the way to get the header to drop in. The driver side was the easiest because I jacked up the bell housing 1/2" as described on LS1HOWTO.com (installing LGM longtubes), also had to disconnect the ground strap form the block as described on LS1HOWTO.com.
I had to remove the coilpacks from both sides and the valve cover and loosen the starter from the passenger side.
The things I would do if doing it again: before installing the headers, after the stock exhaust is out, I would loop a zip tie in the holes in the frame on the passenger side, maybe two at different locations so that you could attach a ziptie around the 02 sensor wire to keep the 02 wire away from the header. I found this to be difficult with the header in place, but not bolted in position. I would recommend using the instructions on LS1HOWTO.com as they list bolt sizes and torque values and tend to cover items glossed over by Dynatech Instructions.
The items I would consider before buying and installing are, the headers will be in the way if replacing the clutch and starter motor. I don't know if they could be unbolted or have to be removed to make these repairs.
Had mine installed a few weeks ago with Z06 exhaust. Love 'em! Also added koolsox to plug wires in case of heat issues just to play it safe. Had it edited and dynoed. Nice sound - mellow until you get on it. Well worth it. Quite a SOTP difference. Good luck!
they are top notch.Install tip pass side remove the plastic shield around the battery.header goes in from the top without having to remove the starter.car has to be atleast 22" frame to floor high for driver side install.
I love mine. I've had them for nearly 6 months, and I simply love them. They improve the tone/pitch of your exhaust to a more distinct rumble. I didn't find that they made the sound much louder, but it definitely sounded more throatier. As for performance, the torque increase feels awesome.
Before I bought them, it was between them and the LG's. I'm sure they're both good sets, but the cost difference was around $500, and I really couldn't see anything to justify the difference. I think almost all headers are within 10% of each other with respect to performance gains. I think LT headers are a must for the C5, and the Dynatechs are just a solid performing, good quality set.
Put on the complete system two weeks ago. Had em coated except the hi-flow cats. Looks, sounds, and feels terrific. Used a lift and pretty straight forward process. The best product out there for the money IMHO.
