"tip in" is when your driving and for that instant you first give it gas and I felt a slight hesitation that was tracked down to the vararam. The baja filter was to restrictive choking the engine.I converted the air box and modified it to a more sealed unit with the use of the K&N filter.
Looks good Steve!
I have a K&N on order to put in my Vararam, because my NOS blasted some holes in the foam filter. (oops)
What did you use to keep the filter in place and seal the outer edges?
I emailed the sales dept from the Vararam website this week. I asked if they are making a new version of K&N 33-2522, will it work with my VR-1B, and how do I get one. Got a reply from Steve the next day saying:
"We will have a new filter similar to the K&N available at the end of the month and it will fit your unit." They put me on a call list when these are available. I had just ordered the K&N from Summit. Oh well I guess I have a spare.
due to the design of the current filter box I really cant see any gains by getting a vram k&n style filter unless you mod the box to seal it up like I did.I bet the baja costs less then a $2.00 to make now all of a sudden their stepping up to the plate.
kn part number is KN332522B1B2 look on LAPD web site $49.95 driect bolt on for VARARAM B1 B2 systems no need to wait for the B3 system
This is the same part number for the over the shelf model K&N filter. Have they modified the unit in any way?
And I am assuming that the new filter will be designed to have a good seal without the need to RTV the thing in place. I for one prefer not to RTV the thing in place. I will be waiting the the B3 system to enter the market and see what it has to offer before buying any of the current systems. As I really like the fact that the vararam draws air from outside the engine compartment.
