Well I gotta swap out my clutch because my throw out bearing has trashed it... Background a little I have a 00 M6
I am looking to upgrade since I have to swap regardless. At the moment I only have a Stinger intake and BB Bullet catback. I will be getting the headers in soon and most likely some cam work. I don't think I will ever be pushing anything past 400 to the ground. I want to do is do as much as I can to upgrade the clutch for under a thousand bucks and still have it driveable on the street. I am just obssesed with the idea of lighter parts when it comes to the clutch and flywheel.
Would the SPEC stage 1 do just fine or should I go 2? How about the Spec or Fidenza aluminum flywheel I don't want much of any vibration but I really would like less rotating mass? Any one have any expeirence with the lightened pressure plate or flywheel that SPEC offers with their package? Lastly does any one reccomend other clutch assembly's? If I go with a lighter flywheel or pressure plate will that significantly cut down on clutch lifespan?
If i were you i would get the new ls7 Zo6 Clutch and flywheel package from Gene @ fred beans. He is selling the package for 500 shipped to you,... its amazing deal you cant beat it,. and it will surely not slip or give you issues with your set up that you plan on doing. And you wont have to deal with the issues that some aftermarket clutches give you, like a stiff clutch pedal, chatter, etc...and if your wondering if it will fit and work,.Yes! it has been tried by others and its perfect.

I don't have a lighter flywheel in the vette, but I had one in my Eclipse AWD GSX. It was a Fidanza 9 lb. (stock is 19 lb), and yes, I noticed a difference in speed, acceleration, and quicker revs. Plus, it's sneaky" horsepower"(even though you may or may not actually gain horsepower on a dyno). Yes, I feel you may shorten the life of the clutch somewhat due to the fact you need to slip the clutch more coming from a stop, but, I have not actually verified this. Also, it's harder to accelerate up hills and accelerate hard from low revs, but this is solved with a downshift or two. If I needed to replace the clutch, I would recommend a lighter flywheel.
I do not think so but i have not yet purchased the cluth/flywheel yet,.. you might want to ask someone at ls1tech who has done this kit,... they would be better off giviing you an answer
I like the drivability of a heavier flywheel myself. A Spec stage 3 will do you just fine. Resurfacing the stock flywheel has proved to cause the least chatter.
I am doing a LS7 clutch swap in my C5. My main question is when I put these parts in is this going to fix the grinding I get when I am trying to shift gears? I do know if there is a throw out bearing in these parts? If not will the ls1 bearing work?
When my Z06 clutch started to go away I replaced it with the Cartek stage 7 clutch. The pedal pressure is almost the same as stock and it can take a lot of abuse. Recently, I ran 2 classes at the local drag strip and was just about hot laping the car. The clutch held up fine, no slippage, no smell, no chatter. I also drive the car to and from the track, no trailer. Its priced pretty reasonable as well, Its worth taking a look at.
You would be fine with the C5 Z06 clutch. Has proven reliable and will hold that kind of hp.
The other option would be the LS7 clutch but, it does not have the testing behind it yet that the C5 Z clutch has. I have read horror stories related to just about every aftermarket clutch out there. If you're not pushing a ton of hp; I would stick to the OE units.
I have a 2000 MN6 at about the hp level you are contemplating. Three years ago my stock clutch died and I had it replaced with the Spec Stage II and the fidanza flywheel. I couldn't be happier. No balance problems, the pedal feels about the same as stock, but it clamps well and after the 500 mile breakin has no chatter. It revs faster than a stock motor with the light flywheel (very nice)! I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Just get the Z06 clutch/flywheel...high quality and should hold on fine
It seems like u know alot about z-06 clutches. My 04 just ate an Exedy twin disk in 5500miles! I've never even had drag radials on the car, I don't beat it at all. I'm having Chevrolet but a new z-06 back in. I'm putting 479 rwh, do you think the stock clutch will hold up? Tanks for any help Nor Cal69
