Ok Diff has always had a very slow leak. I had the Tranny & Diff. Fluid changed to Redline products in early Feb. before I knew how easy it would be to do myself. I had a guy at a local place who said he had 2 seperate corvettes and knew how to work on them change the fluid for me. Well I have a diff that leaks about 20 drips a day rather than 2 or 3 and I wanted to check to make sure the fluid hadn't dropped too low!
Correct me if I'm wrong but the plug with the tab on it is the fill one correct???
No how in the $%*& did he over fill the diff. this much??
Sorry for the large pics... Photobucket was having problems for some reason!
Can't see the photo's. Did you check it hot? It expands and builds pressure when hot, and he likely filled it cold. That may the reason for the oil spill you got when you removed the plug.

Also, there is an overflow tube that will burp out fluid when the diferential gets hot (e.g. after a run) until it reaches the proper level. It could just be doing that....hopefully.

The Diff was filled when it was hot, but the fluid he put in it was not of course. I did check the fluid about an hour after I got home since it was still light out. It wasn't hot enough to burn you but it was warm.
I would say I lost at least a quart and it was still coming out slowly when I put the plug back in.
Should I be worried that I don't have enought fluid in there anymore??? Does the fluid expand that much when it is warm???
Be sure your car is on level ground. Fluid should be level with the plug on the back that has the limited slip warning. An empty diff holds 2 qts. use synthetic redline and the gm limited slip additive be careful with the gm stuff – it ate the skin off of my fingertips.

I dont see how you can overfill it since the "full" line is the bottom of the fill hole itself. Just fill it until it weeps out and your good to go. If you keep putting more in it just keeps dripping out of the fill hole until it is level.
I just did this last night.
Agree with the others that if you removed the rear plug, not the one on the bottom, and your car was level, your diff shouldn't be over or under filled anymore. Level should be just below the fill plug.
Is it possible that he filled your diff nose down and was able to get more fluid in that way? I've never seen that much fluid come out just due to heat expansion.

The diff takes a synthetic 75w90, but does not require Redline specifically. Some diff fluids, such as the AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 I use already have the limited slip friction modifier in them. I don't add the friction modifier to mine and have no issues with chatter.
