Default Max. "From a roll" setup. Future plans, please help.

After coming back from Road Atlanta to see the Petit Le Mans, another flurry of mod fever has seemed to have hit me again... So, I guess it's about time to save up for my primary future goal for my baby. So, I've been doing a lot of research lately, but still haven't found what I am looking for, so here's my question(hopefully, you guys can help... as always): What H/C set-up will give me what I want, which is the ultimate get-up-and-go punch/performance from a roll... such as you would get from FI... if not beyond? I am looking for max. performance for the street/strip, & I don't mind sacrificing some streetability. This h/c setup will be powered by an a4 w/ 3.42's & a high-stall tc, plus all the bolt-ons... :o I would like to see ATLEAST 450-500rwhp too, the more the merrier. I just want to be able to plant my foot on it at any rpm... and rip through the gears like a bat-outta-hell. To be honest, I would really like to be able to run/pull a modded Viper from a roll(if possible),(also, let's try not to get too far off-topic w/ that last comment, please) . As for nitrous, sorry no thanks, just not for me. And FI, well... let's just say I would rather not go that route for my own reasons. Hope you guys can give me some ideas. As always it's really appreciated.

Unless you go FI or with NOS you won't see 450-500 RWHP "unlocked" with an A4.

I agree with what Mitch said, or you'll need a stroker/big bore motor.

Really? Hmmm, I was under the impression that it was possible to do so w/ certain stage 3 heads & a monster cam and all the bolt-ons... I could have sworn I saw some setups that have done this? Perphaps my mistake, I'll check on that, but anyways. So if not that much horsepower, the same question w/ the next max. performance numbers(& what #'s would we be looking at then?) Thanks guys... Still searching for that perfect setup(for my needs of course). Please continue...

Those #'s were from MN6's. A set of quality stage II heads, a nice sized cam, and a high stall converter will give you neck snapping results. I'd contact the tuner nearest to you and see what he has to offer. Of if you want to make the treck, ECS and the Vette Doctors have some very impressive packages.

Yeah, I rechecked over plenty of previous threads & sure enough they were all for MN6's . My mistake. As for local tuners, the closest tuner is quite a ways away, as I live out in a rural area. Oh well, besides I'm only 19, so I HEAVILY depend on eBay for nearly every mod over $500.00, which have been most in my case. Thanks for the reccomendation though Face. On top of my first question, let me add some more questions that I would really like to be answered.

1) Plus, which high-stall converter would work best w/ high gears for performance from a roll?

2) Which stage head, what sizes, what cc combustion chamber, & either 3 angle or 5 angle valve job work best for performance from a roll?

3) & finally, which monster came works is best for performance from a roll combined w/ answer #2?

Please excuse all the q's, but my knowledge is limited & I really need to be informed. Answer whatever q's you can. Thanks a lot as always guys. Yall rock.

500 bucks and ebay is not going to get you that far in this game.

What I am doing to get high hp is cam headers n20. don't knock on n20 till you use it. I expect 380rwhp from the cam and headers and with a 100-125 shot near 500rwhp. Headers 1K cam w/allthestuffneeded 1K and good n20 kit 700$.

Sorry to tell you but it is hard to be cheap with vette's. F-body, Mustang parts are so much cheaper....

I all ready have the n20 and headers on my car and am saving up for the g5x3 cam... but I am an m6.

Hey Insane, bro. please reread my post. I have spent mucho on my car & I know it isn't cheap & I wouldn't put a cheap product into my baby if it was given to me for free. I was saying for all purchases over $500 I depend on eBay, trust me those who do this, understand why. It is a great way to save big money on the same product you would by from a wholesaler which would be exactly the same. As for ripping on n20, why on earth would I do that? I've used it on plenty of cars in the past & I love it, it is one of the best bang for your buck mods for any vehicle. Nothing like n20 on a high hp car. I'm just saying, I don't want it on this car. I want to run high compression for 1 & 2, I don't like having to refill my bottles all the time. I like the power to just ALWAYS be there. So, like I said, not knocking on n20, just saying I don't want it on this vehicle. So, ya know, but thanks anyways, & also for your specs.

To be honest, this thread came to be after reading other threads, such as on ls1tech, where some guy was saying his car(an f-body) was much faster than others from a dig, but from a roll, he's not much faster. Also, another thread on here(modded c5 vs. cobra thread) was talking about how much slower an a4 is from a roll(than an mn6, that is), even w/ 3.42's. And also one more thread on ls1tech about h/c vs. fi, where they were talkng about how fi vette would walk a h/c vette w/ the same power from a roll. And finally, someone mentioned in a thread on here about how awesome turbo's were on topend and how they could walk other types of poweradders w/ the same power. Well, I want that! I want to be able to find a h/c setup that could equal the power of a turbo(or sc) from a roll. So, is there anyone out there w/ any clue to this q? Thanks as always.

If you want a good roll racer then your gonna need fi. Its just faster from a roll look at a na cars trap speed copmared to a fi cars speed. Igot a buddy with a hc 150shot ta that will walk a pulleyed 125shot 04 cobra from a dig but not from a roll. The ta traps 120 10.9 the cobra is an embarassing 128 and a supposed 11.6.

"From a roll" setup, IMO, is about having tall gears and boost. Since FI cars make more power in the higher RPMs, the tall gears will allow the car to stay in that RPM range longer.

Speaking PURELY about winning a roll race I'd rather be in a tall geared and boosted setup versus a low geared, h/c or stroked, and N20 setup.

It's interesting to talk about the differences between a roll race car and a 1/4mi car. Keep in mind that the 1/4mi race ends around 120-130mph, where a true roll race king ends his race no earlier than 150 and upwards to 170mph!!

(I might have the tall and short gearing mixed up, but you get the idea.)

Thanks for all the replys guys. I am beginning to grasp an understanding of everything, as well as, a couple of new ideas.

*thinks*... perphaps 3.90 or 4.10 gears(yep, in a a4 ), 4000+ stall converter, a monster cam(perphaps ThunderRacing TReX custom cam, 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa 3500-6700 ) & MAYBE even a 100-150 shot after all(if I get that desperate or power hungry ). Sound crazy enough for you? Bye bye streetability...

IF I had the money, perphaps I would do a insertchargerhere, but unfortunately, that ain't happening since I only make $10.50 an hour + having college. Thanks again guys. Only $4,000.00+ to go

That cam is a little much, you'd do fine with something in the 230's.
The rest of the setup is streetable depending on the driver. I drove my PT4400/4.10 A4 to Manhattan a few weeks back(50+ miles) and take it to work once in a while(32 miles). Going to CT with it in a few weeks(100 miles).

I agree with Mike the T.Rex is a bit much. To be honest with you for your stated goals you would have been much better off with an M6.
A stalled A4s strong suit is great acceleration from a stand still, an M6 has the advantage from a roll.

I agree that the cam is too much for stock cubes. Also this is a 1/4mi setup since the gearing is so low. You'll run out of gear pretty fast with a roll race.

I've got a M6, 305/35/18 tires, and 3.90's so my 4th gear ends around 135mph. Many roll racers would say that's not fast enough to determine a winner! Look on the Supra forums and you'll see

I'm sure there are many high HP vettes out there with that label as well!

I was watching a video last night of a 480rwhp 03/04 cobra racing a single turbo supra with 440rwhp. You'd think that the cobra having 40rwhp would be enough to offset the weight advantage the supra has, but it really wasn't a race after 100mph. Then once the supra put some racing fuel in and upped the boost, it was a slaughter.

The point is, it seems that turbo'd cars make more horsepower after they get spooled up than any other setup. I've seen this from a turbo'd TA and foxbody vids.

So to sum up what I'm saying, it's going to be tough to compete with the "from a roll" cars without going with a turbo. I'll admit that I haven't seen many vids featuring juiced cars, but from what I have seen it would be difficult with just NA. I'm not trying to be discouraging, but playing in the super bowl is one thing but winning it is another!
