Ok....Ive read the sticky several times now and Im still confused I was told when I bought my 99FRC that the recall had been done (over a year ago). I had teh dreaded lockup last week but was able to unlock. I just recieved my new CLB and cant figure if I have to do something extra because of the recall being done or can I just install the CLB and hope it works? Can someone help this clueless wonder out???? Thanks....
Do you have the A4 or MN6? If its the A4, the recall removes the locking plate from the call, the early recall installed the K harness, which simultates the CL ckt.
If you have the MN6, the recall merely flashes the PCM ensuring that if the CL engages, the fuel cuts off preventing you from moving the car.
The CLB, I believe, removes the ablity of the PCM to engage the locking pin into the locking plate, thus preventing the steering column from prohibiting turning the wheel.
When you shut off the car and give the wheel a turn, if the column 'locks up', you either:
1) have an A4 with out the recall performed,or
2) have an MN6 without the clb installed.

It's a FRC, which would mean 6 speed. So I guess what you are saying is that I can install the CLB whithout worrying if the recall has been done or not. Correct?
Well Zeek, being a FRC doesn't mean it has to have a manual 6 speed, but as it does, if the recall is performed, and you do not have the CLB, WHEN the column locks, it will kill the fuel delivery. Install the CLb and even if it has had the pcm Re-flash, it won't affect you. The simle answer is that with the A4, the recall will eliminate the column lock issue, with the MN6, the recall only flashes the PCM. IF an MN6, do the CLB install.
I am taking my 98 mn6 w/ 85K miles to the dealer on Friday to perform the recall. I never had an issue till last Friday when I got the "pull key and wait 10 sec" after I did that I got the "service column lock" message. Doing research for us MN6s we not only get the flash but they are supposed to check clearances in locking mechanisism and maybe change the ECL. I did read on another forum, corvetteactioncenter.com, the service bulletin says replace ECL with P/N 26050960, a new ECL perhaps. I found on another forum they claim that when you put the key in quickly and start quickly you can get these type of errors because all the computers are trying to sync up. It suggests you wait till the DIC goes through the corvette by chevy display before starting. I don't know if this is BS or not.
Personally I would be happy without the CL and get some type of bypass, take my chances with thieft and collect from insurance.
