emergency brake question
1998 manual tranny.
My service manuals have not arrived yet and ive got a quick question.
I have removed the brake caliper and the pads.
Im supposed to be looking for 2 bolts that hold it to the brake backing plate.
I see 2 torx bolts (t55 approx or larger) with a 3rd recessed on the bottom.
And i see 2 bolts that hold the parking cable bracket on.
Neither which seems just quite right when comparing them to the tech list.... Id rather ask what seems to be a dumb question rather than make a dumb mistake
A little insight here .. this is my 1st time working on the C5 brakes.
On the C4's and others im used to the rotors are pressed on and can be removed directly after the calipers are removed ... this seems to be diffrent
thats where ima bit confused.
5 lug nuts
off comes wheel.
Then i take 2 bolts out of the back and the entire caliper comes off.
these 2 are on the back and took i think a 22mm socket to get off.
The rotors wont budge ...
I know im making myself sound a bit dense there but
jack up the rear of the car...
remove the wheels...
then remove the bolts for the calipers...
then the calipers and pads...
you will see the caliper bracket..
it has two bolts that hold this to the brake backing plate..
(are these 2 torx bolts?)
maybe ill grab a couple quick pics to help clear it up.

you can remove the calipers from the caliper brackets, or you can remove the calipers and the brackets in one shot... the caliper bracket bolts are torques to 120 ft lbs... and they are also red loctited in...they are very difficult to remove....
once the caliper brackets are removed, the only thing holding the rotor on is an engaged ebrake....
the other thing is rust around the rotor hub...
A little wd40, or kruel penitrant.... sometimes the rotor hub gets rusted to the rotor... it takes some coaxing from a brass hammer, leaded hammer or a shot hammer. (lead shot inside a plastic hammer )
If you having problems removing the rear rotors themselves, try soaking them for like 2 hours with wd 40 or something stronger, then wack it a few time with a rubber mallet. Thats what i had to do. Make sure you remove the rust and use a light coat of grease or maybe paint them so its not so hard next time. I really dont remember the emergency brake removal. Popped the cable off and removed two bolts?

Take a rubber mallett and hit the rotor from the back side to break it loose.
Oh and make sure you haven't done something goofy like setting the parking brake prior to starting the job..
