Any one here running or has run this cam? Ive got it going in an ls6 with cnc chevy heads in a A4 3000 stall 3.73 vert. Opinions on whether its a bad move, good move? its 232,236 .575,.578 114 lsa
comments? thanks, Normand
Looks good to me. I am actually jealous. I am putting in a 230/224 575/563 111LSA next week and I am wondering if I should go with more duration on both exhaust and intake.
I am no expert by any means but with your listed set up the cam should do well for you. What springs are you going to run? Use duals at the minnimum is my advice. The extra spring is insurance to me.
the heads are coming from TEC in south florida. They build race engines for the grand am rolex series so they know what they are doing.Ive run across a few cams that i thought would be close but im new to the Gen3s and didnt wanna over cam with my combo. I went 107.2 with the stock engine and i know the 99s are supposed to be down alil on pwer with the stamped welded manifolds and the 26lb injectors. Im looking for about 120mph with the new combo. Any thoughts on if this is possible or am i dreaming?thanks Normand
120 is reasonable IMHO. A good tune will be a must. If you are close to Dayton Ohio I can suggest a few tuners.
99's down on power? I have dyno'd at 323/329 with only a blackwing and LS6 intake. But then I have an FRC so the MN6 frees up a little HP.
Good luck with you build up, and keep us posted.
I think your hp numbers are about right with those mods. I bet if i dynoed mine now it MIGHT show 290 if im lucky lol But i will tell u that every time ive went to the track with it that Ive made the most of the power that i do have. Ive had 2 1.83 60' and a 1.84 and several 1.86s all with runflats. Ive been out there and seen several c5s run 12.80s at 112 to 114 and im running those ets @ only 106 to 107. Ill also tell u if I just drop the hammer out of the gate that i got a 2.48 60' too. I learned when I had a 860 rwhp car that the quickest way down the track is not always full throttle off the line. What is the name of the tuner in dayton? and how far is that from the indiana state line? Thanks,Normand
I think a 3000 stall is too small for a cam like the R1 in a 346. I would go with at least 3500 stall with a 4000 stall being even better. I have heard that the R1 makes good power. If you post over on LS1Tech member "Off Axis" was running the R1 in his A4. Perhaps he can give you his first hand impressions of the R1.
Stanger the shop I use is named Quick Rev PH# is 937-299-4358 ask for Jim. The shop has done good work for me and their prices are fair also. Jim has an 99FRC with a F1C that is just nuts so I trust him to work on my FRC.
you think that the 3000 will work better with a non sticky tire better? I know im not looking to run 11.0s but i thought it might be easier to launch with the 3000 Id like maybe 11.6s or 11.7s but that might be alil optimistic on regular tires. Ill be sure and keep everyone posted but our track is down until march or april. have a good one, normand

You won't run 11.7s or 11.6s on street tires, even though your car should be easier to launch with the 3000 stall. The R1 is a large cam in a 346. You need sticky tires and a T/C with a high enough stall speed to take full advantage of the R1s performance.
