Vette got keyed on the drivers side door, so I tried to use some touch paint I ordered. Job did not turn out very good and have too much paint on it and did not blend very well.
Is there a way to remove that touch up paint and start again?
I forgot to add that I did not put on the clear coat yet, because I was hoping to blend the paint better or remove it so that I can start over.
Perhaps if I put the clear coat stage on it will look better?
Isn't it irritating when something like that happens. Too many Low-lifes in the world.
As for the touch up, use lacquer thinner to remove it. It won't hurt the factory paint. There's a kit availible that is made for touch ups like that, but can recall the name. Maybe someone else on the Forum can help.
I have paint thinner. Is that the same as lacquer thinner.
The kit I have has syringes that you put the paint in. Apply lightly and then use a bonding agent to rub it in and blend with the factory paint. I just got to much on and it did not blend well.

Why will the lacquer not harm the factory paint?
Paint thinner and lacquer thinner are not one and the same. The paint on your car is a hardened enamel. The touch up paint is most likely lacquer, so the lacquer thinner will easily remove the touch up paint. You might want to go to a Pep Boys or parts store and see if they have the Duplicolor 2 in 1 scratch fix in your color. It can be applied with the brush inside the applicator, or you can remove the ornage plastic insert and then use the ball point pen like tip to apply the touch up paint. It took me a little while to get it perfect, but I simply used the lacquer thinner to remove my previous attempts until I got it just right.
I put a long scratch in a rental car once and got rid of it by rubbing it with rubbing compound. It disappeared. Come to think of it with modern clear coat I'm not even sure why that worked. The rubbing compound must have got into the paint thru the scratch and smeared it around. I swear, that scratch disappeared completely though
I was the New England Captain for the 2003 caravan. For the goody bags, we received samples of the Langka to hand out. This stuff works really well and will do exactly what you want without any damage to the other paint. I would get some of this if I were in your shoes.
So I take it that once I remove the lacquer, and try again (hopefully with a better result), then I can apply the clearcoat over that?
Question being can you apply clearcoat over top of lacquer?
You will want to double check the touch up paint that you are using. The factory uses a 2 stage enamel on the car; base coat and then clear. The touch up paints that I have used have been lacquer, and some are single stage with the paint and clear in one application, while others require an application of the paint color and then an application of clear. You might want to check out Duplicolors web site, click on the 2 in 1 scratch fix, to see if your color is available and I think it will also tell you if clear is required. One note, my paint color, Navy Blue Metallic was not listed as an available color, but when I went to Pep Boys I actually found the exact color, so maybe the website is not 100% up to date with all of their colors.
Stop jerking around trying to do this yourself. You will be satisified with the results. Find a paintless scratch remover company. They will fill in the scratch and it will disappear for about $100. Applying paint thinner, compound, etc only makes matters worse. This is a job for someone who does it all the time. Most peoples 2 cents worth is just about what its worth, 2 cents.
