No, gaskets fit right into the valve cover and are a nice soft rubber, almost like an O-ring. Just clean everything real good. You should clean the are prior to removal of the valve cover as well so junk doesn't go into the rocker valley.
reuse the valve cover gaskets; i've had dozens off and on w/ no problems; you can use the oem metal exhaust gaskets as well
planned on reusing the exhaust one .. but the one for the valve cover meeh i dunno that's kinda one of those items i'd replace for the extra ten dollars.
just did a cam and heads on 90k mile engine the valve cover gaskets were fine, I had mine off to polish the covers and I would not recomend replacing them unless you see signs of damage, they are a PITA to get back on the covers. just clean and reinstall.

Mine were stretched after taking off and would not seat properly in the groove when trying to reinstall. If the old ones fit in the grooves, reuse, otherwise get new. No goop!!
