Default MagnaFlow X Pipe

I'm looking at adding an X pipe to replace the stock junk H pipe. I know you can buy the complete MagnaFlow X pipe section but it's alot of money compared to just getting the X pipe and have it welded in. Has anyone here done this before? Is the spacing between the pipes the same as the Mag. X pipe? If you look at the cost difference, the complete X pipe section is over $265 and just the X pipe is $80.

I had my magnaflow x-pipe welded in and it fit fine....

If you can get the work done @ a reasonable price I would just get the x - pipe.

I can send u a pic if you like....I removed it when I got my headers and cats installed.

Do you remember what they charged for welding it in?

I'm also wondering if the fit will be as good as the factory MagnaFlow X pipe section.

And what if any power gain would you get on a bone stock Z06 replacing the H with and X? Just curious. And how does the exhaust tone change?

The only problem with just welding them in is the old rust problem. I have not looked lately, but Summit used to have the weld in type x-pipes for a reasonable price. The original ones, the ones used in NASCAR, were made by Dr Gas. He has a web site you can reach through a Google search.

do a search on Ebay for "MagnaFlow X pipe" also Jegs has the same thing.

It's only the "X" piece and not the section from the cats to the flanges.

less than $80 and free shipping

~300 for an X-pipe is an outrage. I paid $200 for mine and I felt that was too much. It's a nice x-pipe, FWIW.

From what I have seen some are stainless steel and some are aluminized. The good ones are stainless steel and that is what cost more. If you buy just the X pipe then have it welded in you still have the rust issue with the weld I think. When you add the labor to get it installed your probabily going to be around $200 for the system installed.

Hey Neablas: the only problem I see with yours will be the shipping cost because it's so big. Good price besides that.
