I want to put an aftermarket shifter in my '00. There are several good ones on the market; in the Ford world, the Pro 50 is arguably the best, but it is not available (as far as I know) for C5s. Which one would you recommend?
Also, my car is popping out of reverse. I hope the aftermarket shifter will fix it. It acts as though it is not engaging all the way and pops out if I don't hold the shifter while backing up.
Dont waste your time with the C6 ZO6 shifter. If you want that route, just cut and bend your stock shifter. It isnt worth the $190 to have the same throw and mechanics.
If I could do it over, I would go with the B&M Ripper.
Interesting, because I really like my C6 shifter and ****. I had the Hurst and pulled it out after a week, couldn't stand it or the noise I got with it.
You may want to consider the B&M sport shifter, I believe the part # is 45044. Very positive shifts and a short throw. At first, the shifts took a little muscle but after 500/600 miles it has loosened up and is a lot of fun going through the gears.

ditto, went from hurst to c6 and love it. and I drag race ALOT, never miss any gears w/ it and can shift very quick still.
I am still hoping that the popping out of reverse is linkage related and not the trans. I haven't seen any pictures or diagrams of how the shifter makes connection with trans so I am still hoping that the linkage can be adjusted somehow.
Hurst and I love it! I might go to a softer sping just for giggles but I love it atthe track. I am using the OEM **** too asI like it better than the aftermarket one I tried.

Could be stock shifter has gone off ceneter, but this is normal with an aftermarket shifter if not aligned corectly. Happened to me :o If you install one with adjustabe stops, take themout to be sure o at least lock tight them. That would casue a 1,3,5 or 2,4,6 issue. R being farthest could be an alignmet issue. Lots of these cars like to go from 3rd to R or 2nd to R (from a stop before going into R...). Good luckl!

I have used all 3 shifters (C5 stock, C6 Stock, and Hurst). To be honest the only one that suxs is the C5 stock. The C6 and the Hurst have much shorter throws.
The C6 shifter takes much less effort to move over the Hurst. I liked it, but for slamming gears I thought the Hurst would hold up better plus finding 3rd and 4th is never an issue. If you are in traffic alot or if you have a wife that drives the car I would consider the C6 shifter over the Hurst (no offense to women, but I talked to a handful of people and most say that their wives dont like the Hurst because of the additional effort it takes to shift).
The new B&M sounds interesting (no buzz, short "click" throws) but I like the adjustable stops. I have a couple of Mustangs with the Power Tower Pro 5o shifters and they are bullet-proof with no buzz. I guess the distance between the shifter and the trans magnifies the vibration in a C5 and makes the buzz noticable without rubber isolators.

My wife has no problem with the Hurst and I even shortehed it an additional .5 in. and bored the cueball **** out so it is very short. Have never missed a shift to any gear and have had it for 3 or 4 years and it has held up over many hard power shifts.
