I have a problem with grinding and the MN12 tranny in my 2001 Z06. it first started about three weeks ago, when CAGS engaged (I know, i should've disconnected it by now). What would happen is when I made the shift from 1st to 4th with CAGS on, the shifter would make a loud grinding noise when going into Neutral. I could also feel it through the stick. It did it a few times then it went away, but now it's making the same noise almost every time I go into 4th gear, CAGS or not. Anyone else have this problem? Please I'm trying to keep away from my local Chevy dealer I hope it's not the synchros in the tranny. Thanks in advance for your advice and insights!
Mine did something similar. I could prevent it for a while by double clutching (3rd to neutral then let clutch out, then clutch back in before shifting to 4th) but after a while double clutching did not help and it got stuck in 4th. I tried changing the fluid when it first started, no help.
have same problem into 4th, took it in to John Boos ( local corvette mech and racer no one can beat took 3rd in Cannonball ) and he could not duplicate the problem, so I started to play with how I pulled the shifter back and pulled at different angles and go it to not grind so I am going to over the winter adj the shift rods by the shifter linkage and see if that helps and also try my stock shifter being I have a bm ripper now.
