I dont think it would be as simple as rewiring the switch to change it. The computer defaults to ON and waits for a signal after startup to change mode =/
I'm with you though...part of my routine every time I get in the car is to turn it off and reset my display to clear the message =/

go to www.laptrax.com and buy one of their units - you can then set any default you want. It takes about 20 minutes for an idiot like me to install.
