I have pretty much every bolt on possible on my 02 Z06 OTHER than headers. Therefore I am looking to purchase me a set of long tubes sometime here really soon. My question is about the cats. Is it better to buy some random high flow cats or just delete the cats? I'm not worried about passing emissions. I have also seen that longtubes will net you around 30 or so rwhp with a tune. How much rwhp will you get from deleting the cats, or just going with high flow cats? Whats the best setup as far as headers/cats/midpipe are concerned. I also thin I am going to switch over to an x-pipe from the factory H. Help me out here guys and give me your opinions and what kind of rwhp increases you saw with your mods. THANKS!
On a heads/ mild cam motor with long tubes, stock cats, X pipe I dyno'd 413/390. By removing the stock 2 1/2" midpipes and cats and replacing with straight 3" midpipes mine went to 422/398 SAE. It also got VERY LOUD! and a little smelly as others have noted.
9HP/8 lb ft of torque worth the smell and noise... Your call. Mebbe I'm getting too old, all the kids think it sounds great.
Deleting the cats will make the car louder and you will see anywhere from 5-10 rwhp increase. Personally, I ran w/o the cats on my cam only car and the smell was so bad that I bought the cats and put them on. I also prefer the way it sounds with the cats. The fuel smell was too much for me when I was sitting at stop lights etc. After driving for 10 min. or so my clothes would stink like exhaust and fuel.
I have a 02 Z06. I have installed a Halltech air filter. I have on order Borla Cat back system. Looking ofor some help with the header set up. I live in Oregon and need to be able to got through emmissions so I will need to have cats.
I am looking at a long tube set up but do not know the best set up. Any ideas what brand is best fpr HP and where to get the best price for the set up.
How about being socially responsible and leave the cats in place. Nobody wants to sit behind you in traffic with your un-filtered exhaust choking them to death. 3 HP, big deal. Please leave the cats alone.
Quite a few mods on my 04 vert and do have dynatech ss longtubes with cats and magnaflow exhaust. Exhaust went together very well, pleasantly loud. Car ran a 12.24 @ 111 with stock converter.

I didn't really expect to get alot of HP from deleting the cats. I was asking more about that as far as sound is concerned. Is the smell really that bad? Replying to your comment though...there are ALOT of people who are unresponsible on the roads these days, even just referring to the way people drive in general. However, I can't stand getting behind a car burning more oil than gas...
