Default Winter mods... cam recommendations needed.

Winter is here so it’s time to plan for spring, I’m thinking of porting and polishing the heads and a new cam.
Big is good but I still want reliability and driveability, thoughts please.
Thanks

Just saw your post at the Z06vette.com site, and it listed that you are running an S/C. I suggested in your other thread to look at the G5X3, but I don't think that is an appropriate cam for an S/C application. You might want to post this up in the FI section here and let folks know exactly what your current set-up is...you'll get better replies that way, me thinks.

The G5X3 is the biggest I would go with if you want big. With proper tuning this cam is streetable. However without 390s or 410s your low end torque is going to suffer and the cam doesn't really kick in until about 3.5k rpms. Also, although the cam is streetable, expect the car to shake quite a bit at idle. I personally hate that shaking of the G5X3 and that's why I went a little smaller with an FM13 cam on a 112 from Futral. This cam still makes decent power, but doesn't give up as much on the low end. Another cam you may want to consider is the G5X2 on a 112. With either of these cams I mentioned vs. the G5X3 you will be giving up about 15hp on the top end but your street manners will be much improved. If your set on a G5X3 for the top end power I suggest hooking up with someone with this cam so you can see first hand if your comfortable with how the cam idles and shakes the car back and forth.

I went with the Futral Motorsports F13 cam on a 114 over the G5X3 for the very same reason. IMO the vette should be smooth and powerful - leave the "big cam" shaking to the Z28 and Mustangs. To each their own....

I run a 230/236 .598/.610 112 XE-R cam and have power everywhere. I can drive the car in bumper-to-bumper traffic with no problems. From 1500 RPM to 6600 RPM it's smooth and strong. I can lug 6th gear at 600 RPM.

Got a speed density tune with the H/C. Tuning is everything when choosing a cam.

isn't the Futral Motorsports F13 cam almost like the g5x1 cam that lg motorsports has. how is the drivability with it and what can i expect with either on cam only. i was thinking of something like a 224/224 or a 228/228 also.
