Default Pull key, wait 10 seconds

What does this message mean???? Just tried to start my car and nothing happened. Tried to jump it and still nothing. Lights under the hood are on and all other lights operational. While trying to jump it, the above message came on "pull key wait 10 seconds". What can I do? My car is at a bar in not the best area of town. I dont really want to leave it there over night. Need help.

Read the sticky at the top of the tech column.
'Tis the well known Column Lock issue, good luck!

rock the car forward and backward while jerking the steering wheel left and right should it lock on you....
BUY a CLB (Column Lock Bypass) from Corvettes of Houston...
don't delay....

Well I went back to my car. And while turing the steering wheel far right and turning the key, it started. Drove it home. Now it starts fine, with no problems. Is this still the CLB? I thought there would be a message on the DIC telling me it was CLB if that happened.

no when it locks you wre F'd...can you turn the wheel lock to lock with no key?? If so you have the CL bypassed if not you should really consider it before you get stuck

No thats not true! My 98 locked and the engine started! Just couldnt go anywhere but the direction that the wteering was locked in.

The pull key wait 10 sec means that the security system didnt reconize the resistor pellet in the key. There could have been a number of reasons but the two that are most common are the two contacts on the key were dirty or the two small contacts inside the cylinder lock are dirty or worn. If that is the case it usualy means that you need anew cylinder lock.

If you have a second key, try that one and see if it still does it. If you start the car when that message pops up, it will start but,,, if you try to move the car, it will cut off!

If you dont have the column lock bypass, your are only driving on borrowed time!!! It gets everyone sooner or later!

If your steering wheel locks when you pull the key, you DONT have the column lock! If you can turn the wheel after the key is removed, the bypass is most likely installed.
