I was right at the ordering point of getting the LS2 shortblock today on the phone, but found out SLP doesnt take credit cards for blocks, only cash/checks, so I went ahead and bought the parts to make the forged 383. $2200 as opposed to $4400 (after shipping), not including the few parts it would take the make the LS2 conversion- In the end, the 383 will be easier, and about $2K cheaper, and money is an issue so looks like I will have to settle. I am really curious to see what kind of power this setup will make with my H/C setup!

Let us know how it works out.

By the way, for future reference, I am sure Scoggin-Dickey would have been fine with the credit card. I would go with them before SLP anyway.

So what exact parts are you using? Or was it like one of the Lunati stroker kits?

Good Luck!

They are forged Eagle Rods/ 4.00 Crank, and Forged flat dish JE Pistons, stock bore/Compression. My car has 83K miles on it and uses a fair amount of oil, so I look at this as maintinence
I think for under $3500 installed, the hp (and especially tq)/price ratio is awesome.

I'm not sure if they are afraid of a charge back or if they just don't want to pay the added 3% for accepting a credit card. Either way it's their business and I can appreciate why they wouldn't want to deal with credit cards. Plus by only accepting cash you kinda weed out some of the folks who really shouldn't be modding.

Cheers,

Mark

They said its because some people will put it on their CC, then have a problem with the block and will try to revoke payment- they are protected by only taking cash. I have the cash to mod, but prefer to use a CC and pay it off.

I would love the extra torque a 383 would give me. Please keep us updated on final numbers. I don't want to spray it but I would like to drop some ET next year so I've been thinking about doing this. I also have same setup as you but with an X4 so I'll use you as my guinea pig

Hah, oh well- I figured the no CC was the standard when ordering a shortblock after what SLP told me. I think I made the right choice though- I plan to SC the motor anyway, and the power difference at that point (at least to me) will be moot.

I will be your guinea pig, no problem. I'll be sure to post a dyno at the first of the year. I am going to guess (hope for) 470rwhp
