I have a 2004 Coupe and recently I had it out for a spin. Does the C5's have a rev limiter programmed from the factory? I have never driven it this hard but when I was in 2nd gear at high RPM it acted like it had a rev limiter until I shifted into 3rd. I feel kind of bad because I dont want to hurt it, I only have 3500 miles on it.

There is a fuel cutoff on the C5. My owners manual (02) states that fuel cutoff for the C5 is at about 6200, (6500 for the Z06). Bumping into this occassionally shouldn't hurt the motor.
I have never noticed it either. I usually dont run the car that hard, but I will look for it next time.
It is not easy to see, it hides around the other info. The best way to see it is set your HUD for speed only, get rid of the tach in the HUD and you can see it better. Once you find it you can turn your tach back on, since you know where it is then it seems to stand out better.

I've seen the "SHIFT" indicator in my HUD come on once, when my tranny was getting ready to shift out of 3rd gear and into 4th. I was a little startled to see it, as I have an automatic, though I did remember reading about it in the Owner Manual.
The 2002 Owner Manual (p. 2-115) says:
"Shift Light (Performance SHIFT Light)
This light is used for performance driving to indicate
that the vehicle’s best performance level has been
reached to shift the transmission into the next
higher gear. The SHIFT light will display at an
engine speed of about 5,750 rpm (6,250 rpm
on Z06), just prior to reaching the engine fuel
cut-off mode."

5750 rpms, seems a little low to shift for max performance.
I do know that if you increase your rev limiter by tuning the shift light will come on in accordance with where you have set the rpms for the rev limiter.

I don't know - if peak hp is at 5200 rpm, and peak torque is at 4000 rpm, it seems realistic that it may be getting to be time to shift at 5750 rpm. Perhaps the indicator is trying to lead the driver by a little bit, since inevitably it would take the drive a moment or two to actually shift once they saw the indicator light. This is, of course, assuming that he/she is shifting by the indicator.
I never watch the tach or shift light (if there is one).
I shift at an "A flat".
When I drag raced motorcycles, I shifted at an "E flat".
Any of you who are musicians will know what I'm talking about.
"Pianoprodigy", comments?
you can drive around all day on the rev limiter, and it won't hurt a thing. You can safely rev an 01-up LS engine to 6900rpm, if you are so inclined to change the tuning. The 97-00' engines had weaker rod bolts, and really were only safe to around 6500, under constant high-rpm use.

Thanks , that is good to know...I do not plan on driving it that hard, but it is good to know that hitting it by accident will not hit the wallet also!
