I used an ATI dampener on the 383 I just finished recently. Didn't have any problems similar to what you described. Mine came in essentially three pieces and had to be bolted together (hub, rear pulley, front main assembly). Perhaps something isnt lined up properly, rear pulley backwards causing a problem....just shooting in the dark here. Obviously you might have gotten the wrong parts. I would call ATI tomorrow....speak with JC....Super sharp guy. He will get it straightened out for you I'm sure.
I just received my ATI damper with aluminum shell.
Firstly for all those stating that the alu shell is too light, it weighs more than the stock damper (between 1 and 1 1/2 lbs. more)
My problem with it is that the hub is too long, so that the front pulley sits almost 1/2" further forward than the OEM.
I wonder if they sent me the wrong hub.
Hub is pn 6032 (steel)
ac pulley is 6734
Alu. shell is supposedly 7074 CS (on packing slip, but stamped on the shell is 916601 (maybe serial number?)
The kit is a 917266
Anyone have problems like this?
OEM damper is off 01 C5 6 speed.
Part number is right. i jsut installed that same dampner on my 97 c5. You may have it bolted together wrong, the long side of the snout should go into the motor and seal up against the front cover oil seal.
I found the A/C pulley was easy to reverse and that the assembly should be done off the car the first time to understand how it went together. I agree, sounds like maybe it has been put together incorrectly. Which pulley doesn't line up, the A/C?
Also, did you need to hone it per the instructions?
The AC pulley can be put on backwards so that it won't line up right, the damper has to be removed and the pulley reversed. I made the same mistake. No honing was needed.
