Default Trans Temps

I just got a Rodney trans and a 3200 stall...

Noticed temps as high as 216 on the dic...this is after a few romps and then going into town where airflow isnt as good.

I feel this is a high enough temp to warrant a cooler, even though the temp only raised after driving in town.

I want to mount the cooler in the rear, where the mufflers used to be....one of the fan cooled unit....very slick. I have done this on a few hot rod and they work very well. Dont depend on movement of the car to cool.

what ya think??? Just how hot is too hot on a a4??? I want to stay under 200....correct??

let me know guys

How much air flow would you get for cooling back there? Would be my first concern.

put a 24K BTU B&M up front and you'll drop down to 180, no problem - maybe not "cool" but it works and it's short and sweet and cheap.

I have a factory trans with an SS3600 TC in it. I use the above mentioned B&M in the front. My unit is plumbed as a stand alone (not into radiator) and I rarely in the Florida heat see temps above 163*

I've got the same TC and a B&M and see the same temps in South Carolina summer heat.

THAT is amazing to me, cuz I run B&M 24,000BTU cooler also. Installed in the front, over AC radiator, running in-line with radiator (most popular set up I think, and was advised by my tuner also), ALL STOCK TC and 2.73 rear end - STILL I see 215* in the Bay area (San Francisco, CA) in Summer. And summer here gets 80-90* hot, at the most. How your temps dont go over 163*, in Florida, even with 3600 TC, is beyond me....

Also the post under mine. Post #5 is the same set-up, with similiar results. Might be because i'm using the 1/2" braided lines. I really don't know but, I used to see temps of about 211 - 216 before the cooler. Needless to say i'm very pleased with my set-up.

Do you see temps over 200 with normal street driving or on the track?
If you are seeing temps OVER 200 with street driving with that BM cooler, something is wrong.....

Installation? Low tranny fluid??? Check your plumbing for proper flow.

I run the same cooler and live in the same area. With street and freeway driving,
I rarely see temps over 190 in summer
(air temps in the
90's)

It will also help if you lower your fan settings 10-15 degrees. The car will run cooler.

So where do you live? I'm in Hayward, maybe I've met you at one of the get togethers. I have not touched the fan settings yet. Cuz the tuner wants to charge me $500 for tune (including fan settings). In this weather I run about 135-150. In Summer, its more closer or over 200 (city & freeway)
