I have a 99 FRC, 2 years ago I dumped the delco and went with a yellow Optima. Very happy, bought it online. If you go that route get the Optima tie down block.
Ok gotcha I'll check also to make sure, im going to change it in the spring cause it's gone dead on me twice so im not in a rush cause it's away for the winter
I went with a NAPA gold series. Has 770CCA vs 500CCA from the Delco. More is better with a battery. Especially with the shutdown pull of a C5. Your lucky if you get 2 years I think no matter what the manufacturer is. Change it out before it leaks and destroys the PCM. good luck....
I put Optima red tops in all 4 of my vehicles years ago. When is Mr. Monkeywrench going to get it. The stealership replaced the dead factory battery with another crummy Delco when the car was still new so I just tossed it and installed an Optima. I don't want battery acid all over the wiring harness.
Looks exactly like mine. don't have to worry about anything leaking onto the computer harness.
Were you able to torque down the terminal bolts using a torque wrench ? (spec is at 11 ft-lb) I can't seem to find a torque wrench to fit in that area. I might be overdoing it, but I'm a firm believer in proper torquing.

Try a Torque Wrench that is in Inch Lbs... so 132 inch lbs... There should be a 3/8 drive that can give you that....
What causes these GM batteries to leak? Is the system over charging the batteries? Seems odd that this is so common. My 10 year old Toyota finally had a battery go bad...and it didn't barf all over my computer when it didn't keep a charge!

in-lbs wrench is also too large. The area I'm talking about is between the black fuse box and the battery terminals, if you put any type of socket on the torque wrench it will not fit, and I simply don't want to remove the fuse box. I have to do it by feel unless someone can find the mystery wrench.
The battery leaks because they are cheaply mabe with a lousy quality control and quality assurance Delco programs. There should be no excuse for such problem, specially when the leaking acid can damage the computer harness (very expensive repair bill).
My o.e. battery started to cause a wide range of electrical gremlins, as well as, finally failing to hold a charge. Replaced it with an Optima Red Top. And, have had trouble free service for over three and a half years.
had same prob took batt box out used baking soda to nutrilize the acid . bought autozones best batt. never had a problem
The battery problem is why GM "2001,2002 ) GM part 2277went to AmG type battery,a leak causes
big problems from location (above wiring) and the 500 crank battery agm saved some weight.
The problem was not anything to do with Delco. it was a brass washer
that was added to stop the battery problem before the amg battery was used.
The regular battery leakage
was because the battery terminal was breaking. From over tighted
by the cable itself. There is a GM service bulletin that states that.
We have recenetly been advised by Optima that this battery is on indefinite
backorder do to quality related problems and recall.
We are in the process of removing them our internet sales offering for the
short term.
Please advise if you would wish to placed on a waiting list for availabilty.
We will not charge your c/c or process the order until we contact you for
further confirmation.
Very sorry for this delay, but we also were just recently advised.

[QUOTE=deec73]So you are saying if a Brass washer is installed and the "correct" torque is put on the terminal bolt, then the AC battery wont leak?
thats what i read on a service bulletin, they add a washer to fix,
the problem, but then went to the agm to prevent it from happening.
2001,2002 show agm 97-2000 regular battery, the agm is 100.00
bucks at the deal,with discount
the delco agm should not leak with a hole it. it's the stock 500
amp factory agm shows
I'll look tomorrow and see if it has the washer and if theres any signs of leakage.
I had my delco battery installed at the dealer in 2004,(delco didn't last 2 years) there was no washer between the battery and the terminal. cought my leak in time, (2 weeks ago) must of just started (thankfully I had a battery mat which cought the acid).......installed the orbital today and also had to replace the battery terminal bolt. the bolt was corroded.....
also the obrital battery has top handels which made dropping the battery in the battery compartment very easy.
