Not to sound stupid, but how could you tell it was leaking? Was it that obvious? I havent had a chance to look at mine yet, but will look today for sure. Thanks

I just happened to check on the battery tender, and noticed it looked wet on theside under the positive side batttery terminal, so i pulled the battery and there was a wet mark all down that side of the battery. and my battery mat had about a quarter size spot of acid it absorbed. when i took the battery out, the positive side behind the lead terminal was leaking through. also looked like the dealer crossed threaded the terminal bolt which may of caused the leak.....i think i just got lucky by checking the battery tender....

Just went and looked at mine, dont appear to be any "leakage" but I cant really see that good with that foam thing around the battery. I guess the only real way to tell for sure is take the battery completely out?

Have the Exide 78DT, hold down is made into the battery already, nothing extra to get. Purchased local, about same price as E-Bay one you pay shipping price.

Been a couple of weeks since I posted in this thread, but just wanted to give a little update.

I went to a local battery store and talked to them about the Delco batteries. The guy told me, just like everyone here, he see's a ton of AC Delco batteries coming in leaking. He said just the other day, he had a 2k1 Cadilac in there with a bad battery. When he took the positive terminal lose, it just broke off it was "ate" up so bad with corrosion and rust. He said it had leaked so bad that it ate through the floor board of the car, (guess the battery is under the back seat in them cars?)

Anyway, I asked him if they sold the "gel" type batteries and he said they sold the Exide Orbital's. He had 2 different models and they were 89.99 plus tax. He told me to come with him in the back and he would show me something. Well they sell "blems" which are brand new batteries with just a cosmetic defect like a imperfection on a label, scratch on the case, something minor. Make a long story short, I got a Exide 78dt for 35.00, installed. When he took my battery cables loose, luckily they looked brand new, no leaking or corrosion on the cables or under the battery for that matter.

In the back of my mind, I didnt see it feasible to change the battery since theres was nothing wrong with it, but for the price, and a piece of mind, I went ahead and done it.
