Default Ideas for Shift ****

I have the hurst short throw shifter for my MN6 C5 and the aftermarket shift **** that the original owner of the car gave me vibrates like crazy when accelerating. I was told if I buy a Hurst shift **** the rattling will go away in the shifter.

So if anyone has pics of thier shift **** setups I would really like to see them. If anyone has some helpful ideas let me know. I did a search came up with nothing. I found some shift ***** on a couple of vendors website, but I dont see any Hurst shift ***** except the classic which looks pretty plain.

Although I have not tried one myself, I hear that a weighted shift **** alleviates vibration. I intend to make a weighted version of my translucent ***** by Summer time, as they seem to be a sought-after item. Here's my design:

I like that, looks good and seems like it would help with the vibration issue.

put a piece of rubber between the shifter stick and the shifter itself and then bolt them together using blue loctite, very tight. This will remove the rattle.

I have had a 21/4" Hurst **** on my Hurst shifter since it's been new and I have never had noise issue, I also took a 4 " X 6 " peice of Dyna Matte sound deadner over the shifter, you can get a small sheet of this stuff from any Stereo shop. My shifter is quiet

Hey Rock'en Silver 02 can you give me a link to see where I can buy one of those billet hurst *****? I have already been to hurst's own website and looked, I just wanted to see which ones people are actually using.

Thank you
Ryan

I had the same issue when I instaleld my hurst short throw, was noisy and had a bad vibration with the Momo shift ****.

Well i read a noise fix on the forums here somewhere. You basically take a 1 1/2 inch fernco rubber pipe cap and cut a hole in the middle and slide down over the hurst shaft and it fits perfectly into the opening after follow the hursts directions to install the rubber surround piece.

After doing this mod the noise was lessesned but it still vibrated and was still noisy. I decided to try a different shift **** so I ordred the Black Z06 billard style shift know from Ecklers.com.
I installed it and WOW, the vibration and noise is completely gone! The **** looks sick and feels very comfortable.

If anyone using the hurst short throw is experiencing Vibrations and Noise using it I recomend doing the Fernco mod and adding a Billiard style shift ****. The Eckler ones are more expensive then the old style Hurst *****, but they look awesome and come in a Z06 or Corvette logo

theres my shift ****

Thanks! This was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I like that billard style shift **** with the C5 logo. It looks good and simple.

Anyone have the thread size and pitch? I have a few AR15 pistol grips laying around and I want to see if I can adapt one to my Hurst.
If it works I'll post pics.

I use an 'Old School' **** from a WWW.FATKNOBS.com on my HURST and have no noise or vibration at all. These are custom made and come in black or white. They are also bored deep into the **** so they screw all the way doen making the HURST short shifter even shorter!
Like the name says; they are FAT. I love mine. Best I have tried and I have tried them all... Good Luck

I have a Hurst shifter with a Momo ****. The **** came with a rubber cap (actually, an assortment of them in different sizes) that fit over the end of the shifter. The **** fits VERY tightly over that cap, and I have no weird vibrations or noises. The **** was a little pricy, but I have been very pleased with the product.

I made my own **** for the Hurst using a #2 billiard ball. (the blue matches my VE Electron BLue interior accents) Very easy to do, just drilled it using a 33/64" drill in a drill press and tapped it with 9/16 x 18
tap. Have never had any noise issues, but was very carful when adjusting the stops that are part of the Hurst shifter. You do not want the stop bolts to touch the shifter stalk during normal shifting, Just pay attnetion to that when doing the install and you won't have any noise/vibration issues. HTH

I ordered a Hurst T-Handle and had a shop tap it for me. Has the little button for the line lock and all. It works really well.
