Whats everyone opinion of the oil additive stop leak,, any brand.. have you used any?, whats the downside?, etc etc..... I see that Redex Stop Oil Leak can be used with reg or syn...
I dump the stuff into my Jeep because I hate it and it has a big leak in the rear main seal. I'd never use anything in the vette that is made to gum up a hole. It has been stated on here many times that the LS1 has tight tollerances and needs good oil flow.
Oh a side note, going to the Cottonbowl? I'll be there!
Actually have two tickets for sale, if you need them let me know.
My recommendation would be to find the leak and fix the problem. Unless it is something like a block that has a slight bit of porisoty and it is out of warranty, i wouldnt use it.

My 2 cents.

I would not do it in a vette...find the problem and fix it if possible...that stuff gets NASTY quick and on a high perf engine...I would not want that molasses in there one bit!
Some of the stop leak is actualy very chemicaly simular to brake fluid. what it does is it softens and swells the rubber seals, stopping the leaks. How ever it stops the leaks but the seals get so soft and gummy that they will deterarate even faster. So instead of having one leak now, in 6 months you will have 10 more.
I took it to a oil change place,, a very young guy looked at it and said that it looks like the Oil pan is leaking and so is the rear main seal... Thats all I know at this point.. After it has been driven for a while when I stop I smell burnig oil... My oil sending unit is out also,,,, gauge reads 80+psi... any help would be appreciated....
Oil pressure sending unit is right on the top of the motor, in the back. That may be the source of the leak and the oil is simply running down the bellhousing. That certainly sounds like a good place to start.
Here is a picture of the engine with the intake removed. The oil pressure sensor is in the rear on the right hand (drivers side) of the engine.
It has an ORANGE wire and a BLACK/White stripe wire. Use a mirror and see if you can look back behind the manifold and see if that is the source of the leak. You are still going to have to replace the sensor but, it will be staisfying to know that you are solving two problems with one repair.
Please keep us up to date on the results of your repairs.
