If it came on and then went off OR came on and flashed, you could be expiercing engine misfire. That would be a P0300 code. The code is only present during misfire or it will set a code if it detects XXX (dont know the exact number) of engine misfires.
Give it a couple of full throttle rend in high gear (heavy load) and see if youbget a steady CEL light or a flashing CEL.
The number one cause of check engine light as cited by mechanics is a loose gas cap!
Check that first....
If that is the cause it can take up to a couple days of driving to reset itself
If you have a CEL, you should have codes, There are very few things that wont set codes. One is an engine misfire. I'm going to drive the Z06 to work thismorning with a loose gas cap and see what code it sets!
I also have experienced this phenomenum twice on the 1/4 mile track. Third gear (MN6) and a hard pull. Actual slight drop in power for a second, then the light goes out and power is restored. When I checked for codes, nothing....I will add, I have had a Dyno tune so I do not have the stock PCM Programming
I've had the Gas Cap and it does set a code and retains it in history (H). Need to manually reset them.
Engine misfire seems interesting. What could produce that, and how many before the CEL is illuminated. Thanks for the input
Well,,,,,,,,I drove the car to work (7 miles) with the gas cap ready to fall off and it didnt throw any codes! I did have some cold idle isues when I first started the engine with the cap off.
1-it's a 2 drive cycle fault[it has to fail the evap test twice to turn on the mil]
2-the evap test will only run with the fuel between 3/4 and 1/4 tank of fuel.anymore or less and the pcm won't do the test.also there are a couple of other inputs needed to make the pcm do the test[throttle angle/road speed/run time/etc.]

Bill
bill-for ha-ha's check for faults,if the car did the evap test, you should have the fault stored[it just doesn't know if the fault is current yet]even though the mil is still off
