hi are you sure this is a green filter. nowhere on this filter does it say it's made by green and when i called vararam about it (i was told i'd get a filter made by k&n) they told me it was developed to work like a green filter.
Yes, it will drop right in but, don't expect a perfect seal with that filter element either. You have to trim that K&N filter and use some foam to make it fit snug.
If you are sticking with the Vararam box I would suggest gettting the new Green filter that vararam is selling.
yes the foam filter is crap...I have a KN replacement and its far from a drop in.I sealed mine to the upper air box with RTV.On the lower air box I added some foam to add to the non existant sealing qualities. The design of the air box will and cannot promote a leak free seal unless modded.
We recently installed a VR2B from LAPD with the non-foam filter in my buddy's '04 Z06. We were more than disappointed when trying to button up the two halves with the filter in between. Getting it to fit right and seal is a two man job and took many tries to get to where the 'pressure test' would pass. The halves would not stay together right and the side of the filter is visible which is not a big deal but it is FAR from a factory fit. If there is any sign of dirt past the filter when the element is cleaned the VR will probably come out in favor of a zip tie/K&N mod.
I used to be a big fan of the VR because of the #'s it puts out and the theory behind it but the quality is poor. I'm sorry I recommended it to my friend. Definite buyer's remorse.
Weird, I bought my VaraRam about 2 years ago from WCC I believe, and it came with a K&N. I just installed it and havn't had any problems with it since.
When I got my Vararam installed I was a bit worried about the air filter sealing up properly too, but the installer showed me how it fit in there before he closed it up and there is no way air was going to get past mine. The fit was perfect on mine, and that filter is in there good and tight with no leaks.
Here is a reply I got from Vararam on a e-mail I sent.
The green is 1 ¼ inch thick the gray is 7/8ths thick. This alters the ram effect. The green is $59 the gray is $39

Is there any different between the Gray filter and Green filter or are they the same filter for the VR-B2, what is the price?
Thanks
