Any update on this? I had my car at the dealer for this and of course it was not happening, so i am pleading with them to replace the stalk as that is what I think it is based on this thread (and also sounds like the hardest thing to change)
Any luck?
Well right after I got the turn signal ordered, my wife of 11 years and three children decided it was time for a divorce. She retained a lawyer a filed.
This week I am going to be dropping my car off to the repair shop to replace the turn signal. I decided I didn't want to screw around behind an airbag. He said he'd charge me $100 to do it. I figure that's a pretty good price.
I'll post again when I know for sure whether or not that this took care of it. But I'm pretty sure it will. When it started going bad, I could fiddle with the stalk and it would replicate the problem. As you probably know from my earlier posts, replacing the Hazard switch didn't do it for me.
1. Remove the upper and lower steering column trim covers.
2. Remove the wire harness straps (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1) and the column.
3. Remove the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2).
4. Remove the two pan head tapping screws (1).
5. Remove the multifunction turn signal switch assembly (1).
I had the dealer replace mine under warranty with some persuasion, and it appears to have fixed the problem as well...
They "never" heard of this problem before....... Figures.
I just took my vette down to a local guy for replacing the turn stalk. I'll know for sure in a few hours if this solved the problem. I'm sorry I've been so slow at getting this done, I'm going through a divorce.
The first shop I took it to chickened out and said he didn't want to perform the repair.
The local guy here is going to charge $140 to replace it, well worth it in my opinion.
I just wanted to report back and tell you guys YES!!! The turn signal stalk replacement, at $170 labor, fixed my turn signal problem. Wahoo! No more spastic, erratic right turn signal, it's all normal.
