Default Lifters??

I am planning on gathering all the parts to have Heads and Cam package on my 97 done sometime...I am going with New LS6 heads (04) and am thinking since I am in there, I should change the lifters...are the LS6\LS1 lifters the same? meaning will LS6 lifters fit in my early LS1 engine and are they the best to go with? I am not looking for a super drag cam package (if that makes the choice any different)it still has to be a daily driver...

Thanks!

Well, the later lifters were supposed to be an improvement over the original lifters due to the way the lower body and roller support was designed. However, having said that, someone on LS1Tech recently opened their motor on an 02 and found the early design lifter installed. Several others have found the same.

I am doing the same things as you are, and elected to go with the Morel lifter instead. It is probably the best quality lifter out there.

I did them when I did my H/C on my 97. I had 56,000 miles at the time, I figured might as well drop them in and be done with it. Besides, when is the next time I'll have the heads off?

BTW, I did the same with the A/C compressor, while I had everything off, what the hell? I don't want to tear it down again. It was starting to make a little racket so......out it went.

Not sure to be honest with you, the first person who found the older design had an LS6. Try one of the forum vendors like Andy at A&A who have had the LS2 apart, meybe he can tell you that the parts are the newer design. Here is a very informative link, hope it helps.
