When experiencing knock and the PCM starts retarding the spark advance does it also add any extra fuel ?
Thanks >>>>> INTHERED
I can't answer the question, but I can perhaps provide some insight.
Mine has always pinged/knocked for a seconds near the top of the torque curve during WOT, usually between the 1-2 shift. It also blows bit of smoke at the same time. I've also noticed it one a 6-5-3 (hit it) - at about 60mph.
I have queried the dealers mechanic about this.
His claim it is normal - that the mph range of each gear is so large that it's almost unavoidable -
Further, the PCM can be tweaked to reduce/eliminate the ping,
but the tradeoff is lowered performance during more 'normal' driving.
My guess is the smoke is directly related to the oil consumption at high rpm/low gear problem
