Default Brake Bleeding Problems

I installed new brake lines on my 2001 C5. I tried to bleed the brakes the "old fashion way" with no results. What is the proper way to bleed the brakes?

Pre-2001 uses the traditional pattern while 2001+ needs to be bled in the order: RR, LF, LR, RF.

While you're in there, install speedbleeders.

Can this be done with the conventional "pump the pedal" method?

Yes, although it requires a very understanding girlfriend.

best low cost mod I have ever done...I bought mine from Vette Brakes.....I also went to Home Depot and bought a piece of vinyl tubing that I hooked to the end of the bleeder valve and ran it into a catch can.....

Start with the longest line first. Then next longest and so on.

I don't understand what speedbleeders do or the advantage of them. Can someone please explain that. I will be replacing my brake fluid in the coming months and MAY want to put these things on while I'm in there. thanks.

They have a spring loaded ball in them. When the bleeder is open, and the brake pedal depressed, fluid pressure overcomes the spring, the ball moves and air/fluid comes out the end of the bleeder. WHen pedal is released, rather than sucking air back in, the ball blocks the opening .

Without it, you would have to dump up the brakes, crack open the bleeder and then close it before releasing the pedal.

Makes for a one man job.

Speedbleeders and ATE Brake fluid.
The ATE brake fluid comes in the blue and the standard yellow color. If you currently have yellow fluid in the system, you buy the blue and bleed the brakes until the blue fluid comes out of the bleeder. The next time, you get the yellow and bleed the system until all the blue is purged etc.
Speedbleeder also sells a waste fluid collection bag. It looks like an I.V. bag. It's only about $6 , and I found it useful. Just crack open the bleeder screw, lay the bag on the floor and slip the tube over the bleeder. I didn't spill a drop, and didn't have to worry about the drain hose popping out of the container or knocking the container of waste fluid over.

I never knew there was a "traditional" pattern. What would that be? I'm going to be removing my calipers soon to repaint them and add stainless braided lines, so this would be good information to have.

Thanks,
Chris
