Help with the bcm

BC
..things start to work...sometimes..

The BCM is in an aluminum box. There is a circuit board inside the box. It can be removed and inspected. Thats about it. When I onpned and inspected mine it had corossion on it. The corossion was causing some of the drivers on the board to turn on stuff that should not have been on!
Here is what the board looks like removed from the box.

There is a single screw on the bottom of the box. DO NOT remove that serew yet.
You will need to pry the top of the box open. The board is ESD Sensitive. (Electro Static Discharge Sensitive). Becareful when you handle the board as to not zap it with static electricity!!
There will be an IC component in the upper right hand corner of the board. Inspect the position of that component with respect to the box. If it touches the box or does not touch the box, just make sure that the IC gets put back in the same position that it was in when the board was removed (touching or not touching).
Now remove the screw and the board. Inspect the botton of the board for a white powdery corossion. If you find some, remove it with an old tooth brush and clean it off with alcohol.
You can inspect the board for poor/loose solder joints but, you will need a magnifying glass!
Thats it: Put it back in and try it.

...I'm in the process of tring to clean it (tooth brush and alcohol)..is it possible that these get wet some how?
..Chuck
BTW, make sure you clean the connectors that plug into the BCM

A door seal leak, door hinge leak (yes they can leak around the hinges), window leak, or one of the worst is the AC drain getting stopped up. Make sure all your carpet is dry and stays dry over there around the BCM, you may have a stopped up AC drain, very common, and it may not show up again until summer.Good luck!

no,it has to be programmed[dealer/tech II]

The three most common places that get the BCM wet are:
The HVAC fan motor vent hose. There is a small 1/2" black rubber formed hose that supplies the fan motor cool air from the air box. When the AC or defrost is on, the hose will condensate and drip water on to the BCM. Wrap bubble wrap around it and staple the bubble wrap in place.
The air box drains can clog and water will flood into the passengers foot well.
If there are any leaks and the carpets get wet, condensation from the moisture inside the car will form on that board.
I strongly recommend that you remove the carpets, insure that the carpet and jute underlayment is dry. I put mine in the boiler room and it dried nicely!!
The areas around the door hinges have been known to leak. The dealer filed my 02 Z hinge wells up with putty to solve a leak.
If I were you, I would try to repair the BCM. If you want to mail it to me, I will attempt to repair it for you. NO CHARGE!! If it works, your all set, if it doesnt you needed a BCM anyway.
Let me know what you want to do.

While the carpet is out, run the AC, wash the car and look for leaks.
