Jackstand points
This is my first C5. Where does one put jackstands on this car? I see the jack points and have a puck for my floor jack. That's fine for getting it off the ground but then where do you put the jackstand? Any and all assistance greatly appreciated and anyone that posts photos of the jackstand points will be my saviour. Thanks. :blueangel:
Vette magazine ran a "How to change the oil in a C5" article a few months back that showed exactly where to place your jack and jack stands. I saved the article, but I don't have access to it right now. Once I find it, I'll let you know if no one else has responded to your post.
It depends what you're doing. For work on a single wheel, just jacking with a puck at the factory jacking point is fine.
If you want to get the rear or front off the car, you'll need to lift at the center of the crossmember (front or rear). Be sure to span at least two ribs, using a block of wood or other item as needed. The only problem you may find is getting a jack under the crossmember with the car being so low.
Once the car is in the air, you can support it at the factory jack points (using pucks for each jackstand) or under the crossmember. I prefer to use the factory jacking points. They're easy to find and secure.
If you use the crossmember, you'll need to span at least two ribs there as well. The service manual has specific information on where to place the jack stands.
For working under one end, Rhino Ramps work excellent as well.
Thanks for the replies.....I've got the rhinos, but I have to take all 4 tires off at once so I needed to know where an acceptable location might be. I guess I want to be the idiot who screws up my car rather than the tire shop..
I am going to be doing the same thing this weekend... pulling all 4 wheels (gottas take 'em in and get the tires switched to my new CCWs).
I will be jacking the car at the crossmembers, and placing 4 jackstands under the 4 factory jacking points with hockey pucks. I have done this before and had no problems. As stated above, when you jack it up, make sure and put something on top of the jack to span both crossmembers when you lift. I use a 5 pound circular barbell weight.
Why can't you jack up the side of the car via a floor jack positioned in the middle of the frame rail? I've done it with no abvious problems but I would'nt do it if there is a good reason....

When I lowered my car I placed the jack towards the center of the rear crossmember to raise it. I figured the rear could not be that heavy. Then I heard POP! I almost crapped my pants! Luckily it was nothing but needless to say I went straight to the manual to get the correct jack points.
John Glenn,
The website is fantastik, I am on the way to play it again sports to build my own jack pads. Great work thanks dude!  :jester :chevy
