I have no ties to SLP or Ross pistons, but I think they need some help about now.

I have over 4000 miles on the exact same block the guy on LS1TECH has. I will also say I have pushed the motor hard with no problems. The only complaint I currently have that that I do have a minor oil burning problem, but that is it. Sounds like it’s a set of defective pistons to me, because 5 of them went down.

My 2 cents…

Why add an extra 100 lbs of block weight by putting in an iron block, especially when the LS2 and LS7 blocks are handling the job so nicely.

I plan on going the 402 route in a few months. Where do Lunati cranks fall in the rankings? A very knowledgeable friend hates Eagle cranks after seeing a machine shop struggle with balancing one (off by 30 grams). I'm told the Callies is the best.

Lunati and Callies are right there as number 1 and 2 LSX cranks. I myself think the 4.0 Lunati crank is king as i had a BRAND SPANKIN new 4.125 Callies Crank FREAKIN BREAK on me on my old professionally built 408 ironblock 427 motor. Was built by a TOP TUNER HERE and the crank welds broke and reluctor wheel failed so I would never touch CALLIES again in a LSX application, but that is just b/c of my bad experience, etc.

My motor was fixed under warranty and that is when i upgraded to a 427 C5R Motor using a new lunati 4.00 crank and that motor performed flawlessly up to the day i sold it in my 98 Roadster 10 months ago and its still runing strong!!!

FYI, My 427 Iron motor 98 C5 Vert was a weekend warrior and the extra 90 lbs never bothered me and only made the front end sit a little bit lower and i did notice a difference in handling but i know for many C5 guys the extra weight is unacceptable but to me no big deal!!
