Default I need gear info please!

i have a 97 and my auto trans went out on me.I figured while i have the trans out i would put 3.42 or 3.73 gears in the car.My question is this, what gears come in the 97 or was the 3.42 even a option or were they only on the newer C5's?I figure if i need to swap em now is the time but if i maybe already have em then no need to look for more gears.thanx for any help that can be given

The 3.42 was only available on the 6 spds. Now sounds like a good time for you to make the change. HTH

In 1997 all A4s came with 2.73 gears and all M6s came with 3.42.

So yours had 2.73s. 3.42s will give a noticeable improvement without sacrificing too much MPG. 3.73s are an option if you could care less about mileage.

Good Luck. Nothing like a failure to justify a desired upgrade

so what would be a good price for 3.42 rear or a 3.73 rear cost used?

I've seen them listed (new full rear assembly) for around $1200. More if you want something raceworthy from someone like DTE.

Default Hey pal..Sorry about your trans.......

Hey there....If you're interested, We build alot of these rears and build several automatic monsters each year....We can discuss any level of performance you are looking for......

The trans is complex and allows any level of performance your budget allows....

There are afew options with the rear diff as well...

One of the other things you should consider is a PRO TORQUE converter...It will permit your automatic to make awesome power with no compromises....You won't even know it's there unless you're on the throttle....
Lastly, tuning an automatic is tricky....for the car to have GREAT performance and good part throttle driveability and manners....you have to spend some time with it and the customer.....

Whatever you need.....WE CAN HELP!

Hope this helps,

Chuck CoW
