Default Tire Sensor Batteries

I'm getting ready to replace the tires on my wife's 98 Vette with 12K on it. Tires are ok but they need to go, she is driving it more now days. The tire sensors are working ok. But, it is a 98, so do I need to replace the sensors, $325+- from GM parts direct or can I just replace the batteries or should I just not worry about it until they fail?????
Opinnions and Advice apprieciated.

I have heard you can get the batteries replaced but thats about all I know about it. Experience tells me that after you put new tires on and pay for all of that... within a week the sensors will go bad.....so you have few choices...get the batteries replaced and not worry about it....buy new ones...or get rid of them all together. I am guessing since its the wifes car the last choice is not really an option for you.

Replacing the TPS batteries is NOT just pop off the back of the sensor and drop in some new batteries. You would need to oder the correct kind of batteries. dig the potting material out of the area where the battery lives inside the sensor, SOLDER the batteries back in and then re seal the batteries in with silicone RTV. It can be done if you want to do a little work and are familiar with soldering.

There is a GREAT post on that very subject. I will see if I can locate it for you.

What ever way that you decide to do it, I would get the sensors replaced/serviced or what ever. There's a forum member that will service the sensors for you and NO I don't know his name. sorry. Someone might post it for you. It's a trade in service and he sends you reconditioned sensors. Once you get yours out, you send them back to get the core charge. The cost of the service is a lot less than new ones.

Default Thanks

I can buy a new set for about $325 with shipping from GM parts direct, or take a chance and try to replace the Batteries, that may not be an option for me at this time. I agree with the battery site that the ones I buy may be on the self for two years but who knows. I see more and more cars and trucks with TPM on them and wow, it is a lot of money to replace them, and I do not really see the value in them, except for many women, and some non mechanical men.

Thanks for the info.

if you're not going to try and replace the batteries yourself, then just buy the ones from nericreations, they at least have brand new batteries in them and they are only $55.00ea shipped!
