I have been reading through the site and have read all the posts about bad oil sending units but the issue I am seeing is different from others and seeing what you think if I just have a bad oil sending unit.
My 02 vette has 77k miles on it and just a week ago the oil pressure started rising from the normal middle of the guage up to three quarters of the guage while increasing the rpms. At idle it is perfectly dead even on the guage and even when at higher gears at lower rpms it is is were it should be. I have been trying not to drive it but just curious if anybody thinks its just the oil sending unit or should I just drop it off at the dealership and have them take all my money :O)
what does dead even on the gage mean????
why not post actual numbers instead of from the normal middle etc. Is the normal middle the same thing as dead even or something else.
If what you are trying to say is that on increased rpm, no matter what the gear, the oil pressure rises. If that is the case then there in nothing wrong.
He didn't say it pegged the gauge - he said 3/4. I'm not looking at the gauge so I don't know what the graduations are but if it pegs at 80 and he's at 3/4, that is only 60. It's normal for the pressure to rise as the RPM's go up. Tell us more...
Well it was snowing outside where I am and I didn;t want to open the door to look at the guages. so half way is 40 were it normally runs and it will go up to 60 or a bit past when rpms are rising and then it will come back down. I see you guys say there is nothing wrong which is good I just never saw the car do this at all in the past year. Once you apply the gas just a little it will creap up to 60 or higher
When the oil is COLD, the oil is thick and you will see increased oil pressure. It should rise with engine RPM just like ET stated
My Z06 will run the oil pressure up to 75-80 psi if I run the engine up to the high side of the RPM scale, if I don't let her fully warm up first. If I red line it when its warm it will go to about 65-70 psi.
From what your describing,,,,it's NORMAL! If the sender was bad, it would go right to 80 psi on the Gage and 130 on the DIC immediately upon start up and stay there even after it is warm.
