Anyone Use Rislone?
My Corvette (2000 Coupe) has some minor valve noise - especially on startup.
Anyone ever use Rislone (or equivalent) to eliminate minor engine noise in their Corvette?
Check over on Bobistheoilguy.com on the Rislone, I think you will find it is not a favored product at all.
I am not a fan of additives, but sometimes they serve a purpose. On a vehicle with a frequent oil change history, it is not needed. On higher milage(100,000 or so) vehicles, with ticking lifters and/or unknown service history, Rislone may help. I have bought several such vehicles and on two occasions, cured clicking lifters, with Rislone. If the problem is caused by sludge build up, Rislone in time, may cure the noise. I replaced one quart of oil, at an oil change, with Rislone and the noise soon went away. I continued using Rislone, for about 50,000 miles.
My 88 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, has 212,000 miles and I have added Rislone when I bought it at 80,000 miles. Never pulled an engine gasket and it runs like NEW.
Years ago, I bought a 1965 Lincoln approx. 90,000 miles, unknown service history. Also, leaded gas/carburated vehicles, tended to get a lot more sludge it thier crankcases. I pulled the oil pan an removed LITERALLY 3/8" tar like sludge, from the pan bottom. Inside the valve covers, I removed a lesser amount, of sludge. I started using Rislone and cured a lifter noise. Also continued Rislone till I sold the car. I didn't put many miles on it, maybe 20,000(wasen't practical). The oil appeared to be less dirty, at each oil change, so I know Rislone was working.
I would NOT add any additives, to a low milage synthetic oil vehicle.
God Bless America!
