Default Car Won't Start HELP!!!

Alright, this is going to sound wierd. My 98 coupe has a few mods on it...let a friend drive it, redlined it and broke my serpentine belt... Its a heads and cam blown car with a bunch of other goodies on it. So after the shop finished the job I started it up, let it warm, then drove away, within a minute of driving the engine shut off. This is . Im stuck. Here are the symptoms:

1. The battery is on the charger, so no power problems
2. The car cranks, fires a couple of times and then quits
3. After trying to start it a few times, I can smell burnt fuel, my fuel pressure guage reads 55 pounds. fuel pump ok?
4. When it actually is trying to run, or bogging, it smells VERY rich.


ITS LIKE THE CAR WANTS TO START BUT SOMETHING IS STOPPING IT! SOMEONE ADVISED ME THAT THE SHOP NEEDS TO HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, BUT I DONT WANT TO GET RAPED ON CHARGES. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

Some one PLEASE help or at least point me in the right direction. in advance for any useful advice. Thanks fellas.

damn..broke the S belt

I have no idea what the problem may be so consider this a TTT for ya and best of luck getting it back on the road soon

Sounds like an accy froze up maybe. When you start it does it run at all? If it shuts down right away check and see if you can turn the engine by hand from the alt pulley bolt or something like that. If its an auto leave in park if a stick set e brake and neutral. What kind of blower?

Please check your DTC codes and see if any are set. Write down what you find. Clear all codes, start the car and see what DTC codes are current. There are a ton of things that can cause this. Knowing if there are any DTC's will help narrow it down.

It's got a Vortech S-Trim blower. The car was hooked up to a code scanner and came up clean. Everything seemed normal. When I was getting the belt replaced, the shop had to order a tensioner pulley from Vortech, so the battery was disconnected for about a week and a half. I read about something like the PCM or ECU needs to be "re-calibrated" by starting the car and letting it IDLE only for about 30 min, then do normal driving without driving hard for about 50-150 miles. Is this true??? When I hooked up the battery after the belt was installed, it started right up, with no problems, idled smooth (except for that cam in there ) when I started driving away it was fine, I shifted through the gears with out problems (i was driving slow) and then when I came out of a turn in second, I gave it gas, got up to about 4500 rpm, then let off and it just died. completely quit and wouldnt let me start it. AHHHHH, THIS IS FRUSTRATING!!! HELP!!!!

I wold start with the basics. You said you have fuel, so check the spark. By pass your MSD to see if that's the culprit. If the spark checks out, and you have no fuel, you're not pulling any codes, I don't kow, but start there and eliminate the easy stuff first. Just my .02! By the way, I'm sure you have contacted the tuner shop, did they have anything to say about this, any ideas? Good Luck!! Dan
