Whenever I AutoX with my A4, which is mainly on high speed closed road courses in the Chicago area like Gingerman, Blackhawk Farms, and touring at Road America, I get this warning and transmission temp readings from about 260 degrees on up. This usually occurs after 3 or 4 laps around the two-milers. I usually stay in second in the twisties and shift into third as I enter the long straights. The ambient temperature doesn't seem to matter. Another 2001 A4 vert was not having this problem on the same track under the same conditions. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I know adding a separate tranny cooler will help. Does anyone know if the new non-integrated tranny cooler on the 2002 A4, which will be standard from what I hear, will retrofit to a 2000?

Re: High Transmission Temp DIC (Mellow Yellow 2000)
I don't know the answer to your technical question but I do know that you need a tranny cooler which will work in conjunction with whatever your C5 has from the factory..
I have a B&M supercooler and usually by baby stay aroudn196 to 205. When I beat her hard :D the highest she sees is 217 and that don't last long b/f temps drop.. Best $50.00 investment you could make right now. Major Heat + A4 tranny = major $ and frustration when stock tranny gets fried. Trust me my beefed up racing tranny cost me $2,700.00 out the door but man she shifts like a raped ape now :D
Goodluck,
Nitro
p.s. I appears as if the A4 tranny is a weak link on the C5 once you start pushing extra torque and ponies and start driving her really hard (the way she was meant to be driven).

Re: High Transmission Temp DIC (Mellow Yellow 2000)
Mellow Yellow:
Where is the best location and track where you can really open her up and have fun but with hardly anyone else around. Please leave phone number or website for the track that if I go early enough or whatever other traffic there will be minimal.
Re: High Transmission Temp DIC (Mellow Yellow 2000)
Since the owner's manual says that above 270 degrees is the danger zone, and I haven't exceeded that temp, I don't understand why it is advisable to change out the trans fluid, which is no small undertaking from what I understand and is recommended to be done by the dealer.
Re: High Transmission Temp DIC (Mellow Yellow 2000)
You better put a tranny cooler on your baby quick!. The fluid will break down and you will destroy your tranny. I would change it out ASAP. You should get the cooler and use some synthetic auto fluid. Good cheap protection.

Mello, sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I too live in the chicagoland area (NW Ind) I am going to the cruise in for labor day in BG (are you going?) Also, I would like to get some track time on a 'real' road course, let me know what you find out. Email me, thanks :D :D :D
