I just talked to a tech at the dealer some cars will not need to be reprogrammed it depends on what software revision is in the car. If you have software rev 24.008 or later in the pcm no reprograming is needed.
Maybe procrastinating buying the CLB will save me $50 afterall
Listen to what Texhawko says. Don't let the Chevrolet Dealer touch it. Buy the CLB, and do it youself. $50.00 is peace of mind that the dealer does not damage your Corvette. Let alone f**Kup your interior, steering wheel, computer,(PCM) steering column, etc. Too many dealer horror stories. Good Luck. Save the Wave.>George
The difference in approach in Canada and the US will cause future problems for those who wish to buy in one coutnry and import the car to the second.
For example, importing a car to Canada requires GM Canada to stipulate that all the recalls have been done.
If the US recall is removal of the locking plate and the Canadian one leaves it in place... Will an individual have to have the locking plate re-indstalled and adjusted according to the Canadian procedure??????

Under the original recal all that was done to your car was a reprogram of the PCM. Now your car would actually have the lock plate removed and a smaller plate installed that prevent the pin from touching the plate. I had mine done yesterday ('02 Z06 as well) and it took 30 minutes. Dealers are not looking forward to this recall because it means more **** vette customers (probably like your dealer hating self) will have to stand over the techs shoulder while he does his work. Just relax and have it fixed the right way so that you column doesn't lock up while your driving. That would really give you something to b***h about if that happened to you. And besides you don't have to pay a friggin dime so who are is the uninformed people that are getting screwed out of their money that you are referring to?
Lets see now ....I'll just check the profile of "RichieRichZ06" OH MY ! guess what ...he works at a dealership !!! Thanks for your opinion I'm sure it's completely unbiased.
OK joking over ..
I'm sure for some there will be no choice but to go to the dealer and that's just fine for them. I'm sure your dealership is just the best and that there will be all kinds of posts from you friends and employees saying how great all the work done at ????? is. BTW which dealership ? I'm sure anyone close will want to have the work done in 30 mins.
There have been 8 years worth of problems with this and I'm sure it's not over yet. If you have a few spare hours run a search on this subject ...and based on what you find you can make your own judgement.

O.K. I've made my judgement now. Are you ready? Here goes... Let the dealer fix your car. I stood and watched the tech do the process because I knew that people would be freaking out over this today. I can see some of the ones who had to pay to have this work done being pissed off and rightfully so. If you never had to pay to have the work done and you don't have to pay now then who gives a crap as long as the car gets fixed. When one person has a horror story and posts it on here it spreads like wildfire. Whether or not the person reading the post has had a bad experience with this issue now they are biased about it as well. Yes I do work for a good dealership in the East Bay Area ( Woodard Chevrolet Cadillac) and we try to have a good reputation by treating customers right and fixing their cars the first time. I know that there is the "stealerships" out there that nobody should let touch their cars (ie: Hendrick Chevrolet), but not all of us are like that. This procedure is actually very simple and it WILL fix the car this time. I am not trying to make enemies by posting this crap, but some people need to relax a little and let the right thing get done. I, for one, would much rather have a tech touch my "baby" and know that at least the car will not lock up on me driving down the road rather then wondering when I might wreck because my ego would not let somebody fix my problem. If anybody wants to bring their car up here to get fixed I will make sure that the tech won't f**k up your car and you will leave . If I can ever be of assistance on dealer related issues or parts questions feel free to call the dealership. (800)734-5534.

Rich,
Here's my question....my 98 MN6 has never been in for any recalls, no programming, no nothing. If I bring it in, will the dealership simply remove the lock plate and nothing else? NO programming because they didn't get to me during the last 3 recall campaigns? Just wondering because there IS definitely some value in removing the lock plate, but NO reason to re-program my PCM now.
Cheers
John

Good to hear from you again John!! The only thing that we would be doing to your car is remove the plate. No programming at all. I have a helluva tune in my computer and we never came near it with a TechII. If you do come up we can take care of your F45 issue at the same time. -Rich

Will you fix my car while you are working on yours please. I hate going to the dealer as well and I am looking for a good private tech to handle all of my service issues.
I just had a dealer replace my clutch, and rear end. Then a month later the rear end went out not sure if the problem was the rear end or the 500rwp at the drag strip but had it flatbedded to the dealer and I got another rear end. I just cant deal with this kind of service. If I blow up my rear end again and have to get another one for free, I am going to be PISSED.
Rich where is your dealer located? I could use some good service.

Thanks Rich!...I've got to find a day to drive up there soon. Sounds like it would be a very productive visit. I'll call you soon.

RICHIERICHZ06 Where is your dealership located? Nice to see a forum member stepping up to help others. When I call the number you posted, who should I ask for? Thanks, Larry.
In Mar 05...The CL locked up on me as I was leaving a restaurant. Car undriveable. Had to leave it there, overnight. Rented a car. The next morning I had it towed to the Chevy dealer. All in all I spent $900 dollars getting this thing fixed, because the column lock was not covered in the first recall. And the first recall was already performed.
?????
I argued and argued with GM...they kept putting me off, until nonetheless I got frustrated and gave up...I imagine this is what good customer service is all about. Make them wait until they give up or it costs us money (our time).
Now, they 1 year later, when they knew there was a problem for the past 8 years.
Hmmmm...is it worth my effort to pursue this yet again?
Is my column lock going to fail?
Do I need to get the new recall done?
Thanks for any input.
I would send Rick Wagoner a politely worded letter explaining what happened and what it cost you and how much you would be willing to settle for. I have done this several times with large companies including GM ($1400) and have been reimbursed each time. Once they know your price (and its reasonable) they are usually willing to pay. Like anybody else they do not like whiners or people who threaten all sorts of action.

ARGH. I ordered my CLB Wednesday after procrastinating for months......then saw Ken's original posting on the recalll....Murphy's law kicks in again...

ROB, We will be happy to replace your broken parts AS MANY TIMES AS YOU NEED to keep you happy.
RICHIERICHZ06 Thanks for the reply. Is your dealership ready to do the recall now, or are parts on order? I'm in Castro Valley, just south of Oakland, but for the peace of mind in dealing with a caring service department, the drive would be a no brainer. Talk with you soon, Larry.
