Default Engine noise

I have noticed lately I seem to get some engine noise through my speakers, espescially when I have my headlights on. I haven't noticed it during daytime driving. I would guessthis could mean a number of things (short, bad ground, etc.) but I was wondering if anyone had any idea where I could check first? I also noticed that when I have the headlights on and turn on a turn signal I can hear a difference in the tone of the engine noise...thought that might narrow down places to look!

Is this noise coming from the radio? CD player when playing? Or Disc changer in the back or all 3?

I believe its coming through the speakers themselves.

There have been some other threads that have suggested the alternator could be going bad or the capacitor in the alternator is blown. I believe this was the suggestion when you hear electrical current goingt throught the speakers though, not engine noise.
Are you hearing the engine noise through the speakers with the volume all the way down or when the music is playing or both?
