Default wheel plus sizing

I just spoke to a reputiable dealer about the purchase of the C6 Z06 wheels, I wanted 18 inch all around, I was advised against it because of the traction control system, I was told that the sensors would keep the traction control engaged and I could not turn the TC off. Has anyone experienced any problems as such by plus sizing their wheel tire combination?

I don't trust what you're being told. Clearly you can shut your TC off completely, if you choose. I am unaware of any underlying computer parameter that would turn it back on regardless of your specific input. Secondly, you can go to 18" wheels all around. While some people here have said they use identical sized tires on all 4 corners without problems, your safer bet may be to maintain some of the OEM front/rear rolling diameter differential by running a smaller tire in front than the rear, e.g., 275/35-18 front and 295/35-18 rear (I have personal expereience with this combo). While not the identical ratio as with the stock wheels/tires, there is some and it has not caused me any problems. Good luck.

That is

I can't believe any so called "reputable dealer" would try to give you that crap..

He must not know a dam thing about what he's trying to sell..

The funny thing is that the OEM wheels and tires on a C5 coupe are Front 245/45x17, 25.7" diameter and Rear 275/40x18, 26.6" diameter which gives about an inch stagger front to back.

I have 18" wheels at all four corners with Front 265/35x18, 25.3" diameter and Rear 295/35x18, 26.1" diameter which gives about an inch stagger front to back.

That's the kind of info a reputable tire/wheel retailer should be telling you, NOT that your traction control will not be able to be turned off.

That guys has got to be kidding.......
Also, ask him what Traction Control has to do with the front tires???

No.

Improper tire sizes can cause that issue, yes. But as long as you choose the proper size tires, and keep the rear tires taller than the fronts, you will have no problems.

Heck, you could run 20's on the front and 17s in the rear if you want, as long as you size the tires appropriately.

And. btw, Traction control DOES involve the front tires.

Because of the very reasons you gave concerning tire heights. TC works by comparing front and rear wheel speeds. If you alter the front tires...you change the wheel speed and can very well cause the erroneous TC engagement in normal driving.

Example: Go put some 27" tall tires on the front of your car. Make NO other change to the car. Just the front tire swap. Then go drive it and see what happens.

If front tires have nothing to do with the TC system, you should have no problems, right...?

Active Handling uses the wheel speed sensors (and others) as well.
