Took my 98 C5 (31k on the clock) to the dealership for intermittent hard starting.
Mechanic found 2 leaky injectors (5&6).
The mechanic had asked if I had used any additives...I replied with yes, used Techron twice in the last 6k miles to correct my gas gauge problem (which it had). Mech. suggested Techron may be at fault for
the bad injectors.
Just wondering if there is any truth to this theory, since many forum members here use this additive w/out any issue?
I put a bottle in the 34 gallon tank on my GMC dually, and it made my " service engine soon " light come on and stay on for two more tanks full. Must have some powerful ingridents. One bottle in our 18 gallon tank would be twice as concentrated.

In fact GM actually uses techron in their fuel system treatment (part#88861011) and recommends using it on a regular basis. I would have to say that if it was bad for the injectors GM would not use it. The label even reads: "removes deposites from injectors which can restrict fuel flow and cause improper fuel injector operation."

That's what I said.
Mech seems to think techron is more for coating than it is for cleaning.
I tend to disagree.

There are a lot of people here using Techron regularly in their cars and I've not heard of a single case of injector failure caused by it.
I'm a fan of Techron, and use it a lot - but not in the Vette.
I figure I get enough in the Chevron fuel.
But, I do remember reading somewhere about it not being recommended for the Vette injectors. I wonder if it was on this forum?
You might do a search. But as you guys said, lots of us use it all the time.
One ancedote; on my Mercedes forum one of the guys put an additive, (not Techron, BG I think) in his CIS-injected engine, and clogged the tiny injector filter screen with debris that the additive broke loose.
I use Chevron gas exclusivly and have used Techron without injector problems. Find another mechinic.
its in Chevron gas. So if you told him you used chevron gas, hed tell you the same thing? hes trying to let you avoid warranty so the dealer can make money off you.
