The issue will be cold temperature starts and oil not getting to remote engine parts as quickly. I believe the General says 5W30 is preferred but 10W30 can be used as long as the temperature is not below 32F...
BUT check your manual....

I use 5w-30 during winter time because its thinner and is better during cold starts.

The service manual says that 10W30 can be used as long as the temperature is not below 0 deg. F.
You can go to 0W30 if it is going to be below -20 deg.
5W30 is recommended because it is acceptable in any temperature range.

FWIW the manual doesn't address this issue per se....all it says it to use oil that meets the following standard/specs GM 4718M

Good Question... my guess is some people may not have them.. alot of times people keep them when they sell or trade the car. Plus it's more fun to make posts and get everyones opinion on what they should do with there car.. LoL

Just keep in mind that a 10w30 is going to be a little more viscous at startup until the oil is well over 100F than a 5w30. Be gentle with it until the oil is good and warm and you'll be fine.

I always keep about 6.5 quarts in the engine just for good luck. Seems to work better than a lucky rabbits foot.
