Generally the light means you have an emmissions related problem.
Either you are running rich, your gas cap is off or loose, you have a leak in the system, your evaporative emmssions sytems is clogged or leaking,
As per the previous post pull the codes... If the light is not going out.. it has thrown a code that will aid in the diagnosis and repair.
For us to properly help you, your going to need to retrieve the DTC codes out of your DIC. Here is a link to a very cool web site that will tell you how and what the codes mean. Please post the codes so we can diagnosis your issues. Make sure that you include if there H or C.
When your done with writing down all the codes, please clear them and start the car and see what current codes reappear. Please list the most current codes.

Look at page 3-56 of your service manual (DIC warnings) or follow this link Owners manual and go to page 169. It shows that the "service vehicle soon" message relates to an electrical problem but what it really means is one of the systems besides the PCM is seeing a fault, so you will need to do like some of the above people said and check your codes to find out what module is reporting a fault.
Did you have any recent work done? Is your battery weak? I looked in my 99 service manual and found the following (P1133 HO2S insufficient switching bank1 sensor 1) check your connections. P1545 could not find in my book, P1546 (A/C clutch status circuit low voltage) same check wiring harness. C1286 (steering/lateral accelerometer sensor bias malfunction. do you have RPO JL4? could be a bad steering wheel position sensor or even worse the EBTCM (electronic brake control module) and C2120 (tire pressure monitor system malfunction) Like I said check harnesses and battery volts. Hopefully someone else can help you more................good luck
This happened to me last weekend and it turns out the alternator wire was just loose and wasn't making enought volts to properly run the ABS and Traction Controll. I'de check that out as well. Good Luck!
