i can turn traction control on and off but cant get into comp mode.....problem used to come and go.....always first thing in the morning.....then would go away as the car got warm or driven through the day......now wont get in comp mode at all 100% of the time. it is winter...so maybe cold. it says service all the time now.

Are you stopped when holding down the button? On my 2000 you can't be in motion, or it will only disable active handling/traction control.

I have never been able to get my 02 in comp mode either. You just hold the T/C button down for 5 seconds, right? Do all Vettes of my year with active handling have this option, or have I been smoking the devil grass?

My 2004 needs more than 5 secs of pushing to get into competition mode.

When my car was new, I found it very easy to get my 02 Z06 in comp mode. It only took a quick press and hold of the mode button (6-8 sec)and I was all set.

Late last spring I had an EBTCM failure and a NEW EBTCM was installed. Now, if I don't hit and hold the mode button just right, all I get is the OFF mode!!!

To get the EBTCM to enter COMP Mode,, I have to make sure that I deliberately PRESS and HOLD the traction control button using ONE PRESS of the button until the DIC displays COMPETITION MODE. It also takes longer for me to enter COMP Mode than it use to. I'm guessing 12-15 seconds.
If I just reach down and press and hold the switch with out a little bit of testosterone, sometimes it gets comp mode and sometimes all I get is off mode and I have to start all over again.

My recommendation is to see if you have any DTC codes in the DIC. If it is error free, press and hold the button for a GOOD 30 seconds or until you see COMPETITION MODE in the DIC. If comp mode does NOT come up, you could have a very sensitive mode switch that is not making correct contact (inside the switch) and tricking the EBTCM into thinking that you only pressed the button ONCE or less than the amount of time necessary to allow the EBTCM to go into comp mode! Press and HOLD that button with a single hard motion and see if that gets you there!!

Please let us know how you make out.

My 03 does this intermittantly. If I hold it down for more than 5 or 10 seconds and it doesn't come on (it never does no matter how long I hold it) - I release and then re-do it which always works. This makes me think the switch is a little flakey and that I didn't push it straight down but maybe at more of an angle which doesn't work.

That was an option in 2000? or was it standard? What's the RPO to know if you have it? My traction control is either on or off... that's it. End of year 2000 model coupe.

I have a 2000 A4 and cant get into comp mode either. Like others in this post, Im not sure if the car came equipped.

Can someone shed some light in this and tell us how we can find out if our cars came with comp mode?

Thanks!

Competitive mode is only available if you have active handling, which became standard around 2000 or 2001 I think. Not sure but I believe it was an option before it was standard.

yep; that's a problem. Many take more than 5 seconds. Just hold it uintil the mode changes.

1998 - 2000 with optional AH... must be stopped.

2001 thru 2004... stopped or moving.
